ATLANTA WILLARD W. C. T. U.
CELEBRATE8 THE FOURTH IN
A SANE AND 80BER WAY
The Atlanta Willard Union la noth
ing If not patriotic; therefore, It se
lected the subject of "Christian Cltl-
xenshtp" for consideration for the
meeting held on the Qlorioue Fourth
of the year 190'.
“America" was sung and was fol
lowed by a fervent prayer for our
great country and Its rulers, and for
the success of the bills now pending Id
the legislature looking for stale pro
hibition.
The new Declaration of Independ
ence was read by the choir. King Al
cohol, Instead or King George of Eng
land, was arraigned for the long train
of abuses and usurpations brought
about through the liquor truffle. The
new declaration went on to prove Hint
the greatest evil under the sun Is the
liquor traffic und the greatest despot
on earth Is King Alcohol. This stir
ring declaration from women, one
clasa of disfranchised citizens, will not,
perhaps, carry dismay Into the camp
of the enemy, hut we would remind
them It Is not well to despise the day
of small things.
"We are beaten back In many a fray.
And newer strength we borrow:
And where the vanguard rests today
The rear ahall camp tomorrow."
fine woman asked why she should
he denied the ballot, the right preserv
ative of all rights, simply because by
the mystery of birth, she Is a woman,
native born. Intelligent nnd patriotic,
and, last but not least, the mother of
several voters.
Another usked: "What should tho
Christian voter do with the suloon?"
Another queried, "Is the W. C. T. U.
worthy of citizenship?"
Another wanted to know If the drink
traffic was constitutional, one woman
proved conclusively that license Is per
mission from the government to com
mit all the sins In the decalogue, and
then all agreed that the W. C. T. U.
would be victorious. That woman no
longer “a forlorn hope,” but a power In
the land and our president, Mrs. Lil
lian M. N. Stevens. Is coming to Atlan
ta on the !Sd of this month to tell the
legislators that they must send a state
prohibition bill to the governor, who
haa promised to sign It If they do; and
she will also tell them the truth about l- '*V} 1 ' /
