Coast Line railroad. Is desperately 111
at the Walker Memorial Hospital, fol
lowing an operation for appendicitis.

Athena, Ga., July 12.—At the regu
lar monthly meeting of the mayor and
council, the election of a superintend
ent for the city waterworks was en'
tefed Into. James Barrow, William
Crane, H. L. Cook and J. M. Head
were nominated and ten ballots were
taken, resulting in no election, after
which It was declded by the mayor and
council to continue the present ar
rangements with Mr. Barrow, who Is
now acting superintendent until the
next regular meeting.
Returns to His Pulpit.
Rev. Bernard P. Smith, pastor of the
West End Christian church, who has
been conducting a meeting In Americus
for several weeks, will return to his
pulpit for both Rcrvlcea Bunday.
Regimental Reunion.
All Confederate veterans have been
Invited to attend the annual reunion
of the Thirtieth Georgia regiment, to
take place at Douglasvllle, July 26.
There will be martial music by a One
brass band and a number of noted

FATHER OF RECLUSE
Detroit, Mich., July 12.—The discov
ery of an old photograph and a batch
of letters among the effects of Mlsa
Jennie M. Smith, a mysterious recluse
dead at Manistee, has led to what Is
believed to be a remarkable discover}’.
The picture, taken many years ago,
and bearing upon its back only one
word, "Father,” written with a lead
pencil. Is declared to be an early pic
ture of John D. Rockefeller. The
clews, slight as they are, have boon
deemed sufficient to Justify a letter of
Inquiry to Rockefeller,
