Valdoita, Ga.. July 19.—The Inaugu
ration of prohibition In this city Is not
having the effect of unsettling values
or hindering the work of building, as
was feared by a great many people. It
Is said that there Is now nearly $300,000
worth of bulJdJogs under construction,
and Ousley A Paine are having plans
made for five brick stores, which will
be built opposite the Georgia and
Southern passenger depot. The lot Is
at present occupied by a row of wooden
buildings, but the tenants have been
notified to vacate them by August 1,
when the work of demolishing them
will begin.
It Is probable that most of this saloon
men will remain here and go Into other
lines, but some -of them have already-
made arrangements to remove to Jack
sonville nmJ other Florida towns The
prohibition law becomes operative In
the county as a result of the recent
election on the 17th Inst.

ceed. Easy.”
From the hour of midnight the next
night until 4 o'clock In the morning, the
twp frog hunters sported on-,the '"'
lantef-4! burning' brightly, • $et4 he
and carving knives ready. J By; actual
count, say they both, one million frogs
wers heard, one frog was seen, and one
less caught.
The next day the hlghwaymen-hunt
era of bull frogs called on the wise one,
not with knives, but bricks.
"I forgot to say," explained wlsey,
"that frogs won't come out when the
moon Is shining."

work, he stabbed holes In the hot air
bag and made a descent that startled

good luck, the balloonist made a (lying

practically unharmed.

rary receiver* of the Exchange Bank,
which wa» put In their hands July 7,
have made a preliminary report to
Judge U. V. Whipple. The resource*
as returned by the auditing company
aggregate $1,797,715.36, and th* total
of liabilities, Including capital, $469,-
738.1$. The auditors say “the report
le only on values of which we are rea
sonably satisfied, but further Inwstl
gatlon may change these figures.”
Ths court, In compliance with the re
quest of stockholders, continued the
temporary receivers for thirty days, at
which time, August 19, a final report
will bo made and permanent receiv
ers appointed.
The stockholders' meeting yesterday

shipment from middle Georgia will
reach about 1,000 cars. Over 600' have
gone North and East, and one day thls
week 118 cars were consigned from
tills section to the North. Already tbe
hulk of the flner qualities has ueen
sent out
It Is now estimated, that there will
be 400 cars yet to come from tbe or
chard* of middle Georgia. This will
by no means correspond to the large
number that went cut from the same
farms lost season.
