The freight department of the Gulf, Colo-
rndo and .Santa Fo railroad sends the fol
lowing account of Texas and Oklahoma:
"In reviewing the situation, as a whole, I
estimate the Increase In the acreage to he
about 12% per cent, and the decrease In
production about 14 per eent. However,
since this Information was complied, the
conditions have been materially improved
by more favorable weather, nnd should
these conditions continue there will be a
marked Improvement over our estimated
production."

ernment will give a condition higher than

wiling. The beat explanation we can find

dated around 12.60 for October, and
played for a turn. Is covering and alowly
laying the foundation for another bull
campaign In cotton, relying on the coming

yield would be a miracle, and the chances

prices. There was the customary feeling

were not much changed In the enrly Lon
don dealings and for the first hour tho
movement was very irregular. 8t. Ihml,
Atchison, Reading and one or two others
maintained n strong upward tendency, white
last week’s lenders like Union Pacific nnd
Southern 1'nclfic, Northern Pacific nnd
Great Northern were distinctly heavy from
the outset. There also reappeared that
mysterious pressure upon the United Hfntes
Steel Issues which had been jl disturbing
factor at Intervals lu last week’s opera
tion*. Attempts were once more made to
connect this selling with the report* of de
clining activity In the Steel trade, but tho
explanation also was vouchsafed that some
Individual holdings of Steel common were
being liquidated for purely personal ren-
sons, and that the Increase In the supply
was encouraging bearish Interests to at
tack the stock.
