This Institution, once known as "The
8outhern Female College of EaGrangs,”
removed from LaGrango In 1595 to Collogo
Park, and Its name changed to "The South
ern Female (Cox) College," but now It Is
popularly called "Cox College end Con
servatory."

convention of the Farmers Union, or

ton Association, according to State
Lecturer G. M. Davie, and he speaks
for the Georgia division.
In addition to being one of ths hard
est working officials of the union, Mr.
Davis Is the press committee of one.

The body of Miss Myrtle R. Lee, who
died Tuesday afternoon at a private
sanitarium, was sent to her home, Ar

Chattaworth, Gi, July 24.—Sheriff
Ben Keith was shot last night by John
Harper, alias Collins, whom he waa at
tempting to arrest on a charge of mur.

being shot Sheriff Keith ran over 100
yards, shooting at Harper, and at last
hit him In ths head, knocking him
down, and held him until assistance ar
rived. Harper was placed In jail-at

Lake Butler, Fla., July 24.—Because
the hanging ot a negro In the line of
his official duty preyed on his nerves.
Sheriff Joseph B. Bennett, of Starke
county, blew out his brains Monday.
The deed was committed at his home,
In the presence of hts wife. About two
weeks ago the sheriff adjusted the
noose and sprung the death trap for a
negro who had been convicted of mur
der.

Athene, Ga„ July 24.—Evidence hae
been discovered of an attempt to blow
up Bethel church by dynamite. This
church belongs to the negroes In West
Athens and a revival has been held
there for several nights.
Yesterday three sticks of dynamite
were found In the ground under th®
church with the Capa and wire at- 1 ty
inched.
State Rests Case

Gainesville, Ga, July 24.—The morn
ing session of the court here was taken
up In the Introduction of evidence by
the state In Jim Reed’s case, and this
afternoon the defense will put up Its
witnesses. So far no new evidence
has been adduced at tha trial. It la be

Raleigh, N. C„ July 24.—In the hear
ing of the application for ball by Dr.
and Mra. Rowland, charged with mur
dering by polaon the first husband of
th, woman, the efforts of the prosecu
tion today were largely directed to es
tablish as a fact that Dr. Rowland pur
chased certain poisonous drugs at a
wholesale drug store here three days
before Strange died suddenly.
The attempt to prove Rowland had a"
hand In a wreck on a railroad here,
hoping to kill the engineer, did not pan
out much for the prosecution.
Will 8end Girl Home.
Dolly Pickett, a 16-year-old girl who
ran away last Thursday from her
home In Bessemer, Ala, and who was
found In Atlanta late Tuesday after
noon, Informed the police she was per
suaded to leave her home by an Atlan
ta woman.
The girl was found In the Kingston
Hotel by Policeman Sprattln and taken
to the police station. She waa later
turned over to her aunt. Mrs. F. Stew
art, of 71 Foundry street, and will be
returned to her home.
