THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS. »nvneiMTf, jtJLY 25, 1507. FIFTY FEET NEARER MAIN OIL DEPOSIT 24 Hours Nearer $1 Stock-Today 40 Cents-SATURDAY $1 During the last 24 hours the drilling tools being used to drill the second Georgia oil well penetrated into the earth a distance of fifty-odd feet, thus putting us 50 feet nearer the main oil de posit which we feel confident will be found beneath our vast properties at about 1,200 feet. Father Time has advanced us one more day on the calendar, thus bringing us 24 hours closer to midnight of Saturday next when the stock of The Georgia Petroleum Co. will advance from 40 cents to $1.00 per share. But the day has brought forth a much more important fact than either of the above—WE STRUCK ANOTHER POCKET OF OIL. This pocket of oil was much more in evidence, accord ing to long distance telephone advice, than any we have yet struck, tending to show that we are hourly nearing the main oil deposit, existence of which is more clearly demonstrated than it has ever been. * If we had not announced that we would continue to sell shares at 40 cents until Saturday midnight or until the main oil deposit was encountered, we would right now have all the stock with drawn from the market, as it certainly is beyond our comprehension how we can possibly fail to develop oil in paying quantities in a few days. And, of course, the minute we develop the main de posit we will be in position to command any price for the stock—and have thousands of eager investors from all over the country clamoring for it. WHAT OTHERS SAY Letters from Prominent Men Who Are Familiar With Texas Conditions Following Is a copy of a letter written by Dr. T. C. Hawthorn, of Washington. Ga., to a friend, after making a careful examination of the properties of The Georgia Petroleum Company. Dr. .Hawthorn Is a gen tleman well known In Eastern Georgia and his experience In the Toxas oil Helds both before and after they were discovered makes his opinion well worth consideration. "Louisville, Ga., May 18, 1907. ”Dr. C. S. Lucas, "Washington, Ga. "After making a careful study of the Oil proposition at this place, I find flattering prospects. The conditions look to bo the same as Corsicana, Deaumont, Humble ond Xachedochees fields. I was at alt of those places before they found oil, and have been at all those Helds slnco. I was out at the well at this place and find a tremendous gas pres sure: It forced a 2000-pound steel drill up In tho well to a height of 75 feet.' I think thero are good prospects for an oil well hero, and the signs point to a gushor. I will send by express to day some of tho sand from the bottom of tho well. "Will get back home about today week. "I hope you are alt well. Court Is about over here. "Yours truly, lj (Signed) "DR. T. C. HAWTHORN." From W. S. Shepherd, Florala, Ala. Following Is a statement made by Mr. W. S. Shepherd, a prominent real estato man of Florala, Ala., upon his return home after having made a thorough Investigation of the prospects of The Georgia Petroleum Com pany. Mr. Shepherd Is entirely familiar with the conditions met with In the Texas oil fields, having been closely identified with them both before and after oil was discovered there. Ho Is a conservative business man whose opinion Is given great weight by those who know him: “I was In the oil Helds of Deaumont, Texas, beforo they over struck oil, and I consider the prospect for oil In Jefferson county, Georgia, Just as good ns that of the Texas Helds. "The company has a well already drilled to a depth of 860 feet, and has a lease on thirteen thousand acres of oil lands around Louisville, Ga "I am sure that the next twenty days will give the State of Georgia something for all the South to be proud of." Report of State Geologist Prof. S. W. McCallle, Assistant State Geologist, after making a thor ough examination of our properties, says, In concluding his very exhaus tive report: "All the essential conditions for the occurrence of oil In commercial quantities, as above pointed out, appear to be present In the locality where oil has been found near Louisville, Ga." Analysis of Our Oil Dr. Edgar Everhart, chemist to the geological survey of Georgia, af ter analysing oil from our properties, says: "An examination of the above table shows that the Georgia oil excels (others) In every particular." Oil Expert’s View Mr. Arthur Mandell, a well known Pennsylvania oil expert, after mak ing a careful examination of our properties, concludes his report as fol lows: “The Indications you have for oil are much more pronounced than In many of the oil fields of the North.” PHOTOGRAPH OF OUR WELL 8HOWING ROTARY DRILLING TOOLS INSTALLED. Tho above Is a reproduction of a photograph of the well which we are now drilling, showing the rotary drilling tools on the derrick floor. Hydraulic Rotary Process Is superior to all others when used In formations composed of clay, sand or quicksand. This process Is used almost exclusively in the Texas and Louisiana fields and to a large extent In other localities where the conditions are suitable. The operation consists In rapidly turning a column of pipe, the lower end of which Is armed with a steel ■hoe having a sermted edge for cutting the formations through which It passes. Water Is kept under constant high pressure In the pipe and the detritus Is thus forced to tho surface, passing up on the outside of tho pipe with the water. By this means it Is possible to sink a column of casing through the most stubborn beds of quicksand or other soft formations, which will not, through their lack of stability, admit of the usual procedure of first drilling the hole and then lowering the casing to form the final and lasting wall for the well. In cases where the formation Is composed of clay of sufficient density to retain the wall of the well In place, a smaller pipe Is used armed with a perforated bit, through which the water Is forced In same manner, and when the depth Is reached where It may be desirable to Insert the casing, tho drilling pipe Is removed and the casing Is Inserted In the hole thus prepared for It.
