Bondholders Appeal For
Protection From Control
By Southern Ry.
The Born-Overstreet bill to protect
the Income bondholders of the Central
railroad In the alleged Juggling of Its
stock, was considered by the senate
general Judiciary committee Monday
afternoon.
For the Central, Colonel R. B. Law-
ton appeared. lie declared that the
Central was not the property of the
Southern, but had been purchased by
two men, Oaklelgli Thorne, of New
York, and M. J. Perry, of Rhode Island.
Colonel Lawton said that It this bill
was passed that It would take the
control of the property from the hands
of the stockholders, which was a viola-
lion of the stato constitution. He
contended that the Income bondholders
were simply creditors, and that many
of them had purchased the bonds slm-
ly as a speculation.
Colonel Reuben Arnold spoke In be
half of the Income bondholders, and
asserted that the genernl assembly had
power to absolutely destroy the Central
by annulling Its charter. He ventured
the opinion that If the Southern did
not hare possession of the Central that
It had strings on It.
No action was taken by the commit
tee cn the bill.
