The weakness iu Industrial list wa* pro-
nouucod which spread to railroad list. The
decline Is principally due to the hostility
shown toward t oritorntlous iu general. The
papers this morning show the unswerving
attitude adopted, and that the war will
Ih» carried on us diligently ns ever. Thera
is a well organised l>ear cllqno taking ad
vantage of unsettled conditions nud their
effort* are meeting with success. The
market Will probably !>e very uervous at

Town Topics: While sentiment has not
been so depressed for a long time past ns
It was at the closo of business Inst night,
thl* Is usually the case when storks are
near the turning point. The Htrcet Is pretty
much of ono mind, flint a lower market Is
Inevitable, and while they may atua*ar to
b erlght for a day or so, we think the mnr-
hot is nt n level where garni dividend-paying
railroad stocks and high-class industrials
can be bought with a tnfiiluiutn of risk. The
old bear party has undoubtedly Iteen re
sponsible rnr the break lu the market, Imt
in our opinion the decline has Ikh»u carried
altogether too far, ns prices iu many rases
are below those which prevailed during the
March panic. The meeting of 1'nloii Pacific
dl ret cor* scheduled for today is not likely
to nttraet inttHi attention ns usiinl, nud
thorn is good reason to lieUevc lu the event
of a quorum of directors com lug together
that the regular quarterly dividend of 2%
l»er cent will be declared.
While the declining tendency in copper
nnd Iron may cause further unsettlement
in the industrial section, those who are
utde to buy and bold their stock* through a
temporary period of react ion and perhaps a
linn I effort of the bears to force the market
loWu In order to cover tbolr contract* fa-
