When the boat returned twelve wounded ne groes were cared for by a surgeon. Others had slighter Injuries that did not require attention, one of the ne groes had twelve stabs In the back, made by a short-bladed knife. Razors Were the weapons most generally used. BIJOU OPENS ON LABOR DA Y WITH NEW MUSICAL COMEDY; TIM MURPHY OPENS GRAND Vaudeville Promised For El Dorado This Season. Hut two weeks of the summer thea ter season remains, and on Labor Day, September 2, the Casino will be closed and the scene shifted to the Bijou. Three night* later, on September 5, the Brand will open, nnd the new manag er of El Dorado have announced that vaudeville will be given Its Inaugural there on Labor Day. "Anita, the Singing Girl," musical comedy of the airy, summery sort. Is the opening bill at the Bijou, and It promises to be well worth hearing. The Bijou circuit succeeded In landing n number of goods things last season, and though the bookings have not been completed for this year, there are some popular attractions engaged for the Wells circuit and will reach Atlanta during the season. Tim Murphy, always loved In the South, will open the Grand on the night of Thursday, September 5, and will continue for two night perform ances. with probably a matinee. Mr. Murphy has two plays this season, both of which he has given before, nnd has not decided which he will present In Atlanta. "A Corner In Coffee.” in hlch Mr. Murphy Is cast for a differ ent role than that first chosen by him for the first season In the play, may be given. Mr. Murphy Is also using this year his "Two Men and a Girl,” a charming comedy by Frederick Pauld ing, himself a well known actor of the old regime. Both of these plays may he given here. No new announcement has come from Weber & Rush, lessees of El Do rado, since their lease on the house was secured, when they announced good vaudeville to begin about Labor Pay, with two performances dally. Ben Kahn, who represented the com pany here, stated that the best of the Keith circuit. In conjunction with other vaudeville bookings, would be present ed at El Dorado this season. Children Dying. Balnbrldge, Ga., Aug. 20.—The peo ple of Balnbrldge and Decatur county are watching with a great deal of In terest the reports from different sec tions of the state as to the probable effect of the prohibition bill. This matter was settled In this county In March when the county went dry by a good majority. There were many who expressed the opinion that prohibition would have a demoralising efTect on property values and the general busi ness of Balnbrldge. As a matter of fact It has had the opposite effect. The best merchants of Balnbrldge say that they have had a material In crease In business and And collections much belter than before. Property, in stead of decreasing In value. Is show ing a marked tendency In the other di rection. Since the county went dry there have been very’ f*w arrests In Balnbrldge for drunkenness, and for the last three weeks the police court has had nothing to do. TOBACCO CROP DAMAGED BY CONTINUED RAINS Special to The Georglon. Balnbrldge, Ga., Aug. 20.—Crops In this section have been greatly damaged by the recent rains. The cotton crop will be fully two weeks later than usual, nnd about 50 per cent short of last year’s crop. Tobacco planters have been affected more than any other class of farmers. The rains came Just as the crop was being gathered and put in the barns, and It was necessary to keep (ires burning In the barns prac tically all the time for a month to keen the tobacco from moulding. While a gooil part of the crop has been dam aged, All that was saved Is of a fine quality and is bringing from 90 cents to $1.33 a pound. The tobacco Industry In this section Is In Its Infancy.
