Hammond, the daughter of the late
Jamea H. Hammond, and Signor
Adolfo de Luca, of Naples, which oc
curred at Naples, Italy, on the 14th of
July, the news of which has recently
been received by Augusta relatives.
The bride and her beautiful mother are
pleasantly remembered, having visited

500 CLUB ENTERTAINED.
The members of the 500 Club were
delightfully entertained Wednesday
evening by Mrs. L. C. Flanders, at her
home In West End.
The prises, a salad fork, a spoon, a
scarf pin and a pair of hose supporters,
were won by Mrs. Chapman, Miss
Denny, Dr. Sbults Mr. Daley. After
the game delicious refreshments were
served.

drawing being used as the cover dosign for Uncle Remus’s Magazine for
September, which has just made its appearance.
The daintiness and charm of Mr. Ashe’s drawing are apparent in this
reproduction, but the original has the advantage of two-color composi
tions.
This is the first of a series of “Typical Southern Girls” which cele
brated artists have drawn for Uncle Remus’s Magazine. Henry Hutt’s
Atlanta girl will appear in an early issue of the magazine.
Marriage of M rs. Howell and Dr. Grunbergsr
Announced.
Cards have been received In Atlanta announcing the marriage of Mra.
Ellen DavJdson Howell to Dr. Alfred Grunberger, of Vienna.
The wedding took place quietly In Vienna, and does not come aa a sur
prise to Atlanta people, as their engagement has been known for some
months.
Mrs. Grunberger Is well known In Atlanta. As Miss Ellen Davidson, of
Canada, she frequently visited here as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Charles O.
Sheridan, and after her marriage to Professor Henry Howell, resided here
for some tlihe. '
Dr-. Orunberger Is a prominent lawyer of Vienna. In the employ of the
government service, and Is a playwright and critic of high reputation. He
and his bride will make their home permanently In Vienna.

THE WAtIfTcARNIVAL.
The Water Carnival Saturday after
noon and evening at East Lake will be
the center of Interest not only to club
members, but to society at large as
well.
The races will begin at 3:30 o’clock,
and the Illuminated parade at 8 o'clock.
The officials chosen for the regatta
are as follows:
Referee, Dr. Theo Toepel; Judges,
Messrs, Forrest Adair, T. J. Lyons,
Lowry Arnold; timers, S. C. Williams,
E. L. Meyer. Harvey Hatcher; atarter,
Mr. George W. Adair; clerks of course,
Messrs. Frank Reynolds, M. D. Berrien.
Luncheon parties will be In order In
the Interval between the afternoon and
eveulng events, and aa the catering ac
commodations are limited, the membere
are requested to come prepared. The
attendance throughout the entire car
nival will be limited to members and
their lady friends.
The evening parade of decorated ca
noes will bo called at 8 o'clock. In the
absence of Mr. Rawson Collier, Mr.
Howard Geldert, chairman of the com
mittee of arrangements, will act aa
chief marshal. The participants will
report, with lanterns unllghted, at the
formation piers at the upper end of
the long arm of the lake, and will be
assigned places In line. The parade
will paas In review before the boat
house and then circle the lake, later
breaking up Into Individual parties.
For the best decorated canoe a prize
banner ha* been offered which will be
awarded by a board of Judges com
posed of the following ladles: Mrs. J.
H. Porter, Mrs. A. B. Steele, Mrs. J. A
Fltten, Mrs. P. S. Arkwright and Mrs
Lowry Arnold.
Wurm's orchestra will be In attend
ance In the evening, and after the pa
rade the boat house and grounds will be
turned over to the ladles.

day afternoon at 3 o'clock the wedding

Courtenay waa solemnized at the home

left for the home of Mr. Courtenay, at
Pleasant Retreat. Both Mr. and Mrs.
Courtenay are members of prominent
families of this county, and have many
friends, who wish them much happiness

For six weeks consecutively Mile.
Flgluera will deliver lectures on French
history. Beginning with the seven
teenth century, she will speak of the
three kings who preceded the revolu
tion, which period will be discussed
later. The first lecture will begin next
Saturday, at 8:30, with Louis XIV, his
ministers, his court and institutions.

tertain at an Informal supper party
Saturday evening at their summer
place at East Lake prior to the water
carnival, which will be the event of
Saturday.

BOOM CAMPERS.
Miss Aline'Ruse, of Atlahta, will re
turn early next week from a stay at
Boom Camp, with the camping party
which for eight years In succession
has enjoyed an outing there.
Several entertainments have been
given at the camp this summer, Includ
ing a Jolly little affair arranged a few
evenings ago by Adas Ruse.
A contest—guessing the name of
trees»-waa the form of amusement,
and the dainty eouvenlr booklets con
taining the list of questions, the artis
tic work of Miss Ruse, were ornament,
ed with water color sketches of trees,
bordered In gold. Miss Bettle Martin
won the first prize, a pretty water
color sketch of the Boom Camp, ar
tistically framed, and Mrs. James H.
Parkes won the consolation souvenir, a
miniature boat. A merry affair was
an unique combination of a boat and
potato race Wednesday morning, par
ticipated In by eome of the men. Th«'
prizes on this occasion were particu
larly clever.
The most Interesting event of the
entire sojourn, however, was the con
cert Tuesday night given by the camp
era at the school house of Walling for
the people of that community. The
house was filled to overflowing, and
the appreciative audience Included
quite a number of guests from Mc
Minnville and other points, coming by
train. The Boom Camp Club Includes
some of the best musical talent In
Nashville, and they gave a varied and
chnrming program of merry glees.
Southern melodies and other selections,
both new songs and old melodies,
which were beautifully rendered and
well received. After the concert Mr.
and Mrs. John Webb gave an enjoy,
able reception for the Boom Campers
at their home at Walling.
The party Includes Mr. and Mrs.
Jnmes H. Parkes, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
M. Leftwich, Misses Bettle Martin,
Aline Ruse, of Atlanta, Marie Cobbs,
of Springfield, Mary Lambuth and
Mnrtha Scruggs, Messrs. Graham
Hall, Young and Joe Jones, of Chicago,
Sam Bolton and Searcy Green. Mr.
Eugene Laurent, after a week's stay
at .the camp, returned to Nashville a
few days ago, and Mies Martha
Scruggs, who haa been at Monteagle,
joined the party Monday. Dr. Wesley
Maddln. Jr., who has been a guest at
the camp since Monday, returned home

The camping site la Ideal, only a few
faet above the picturesque Caney Fork
river. At the boat landing are a
flotilla of rowboate and a gasoline
launch for river expeditions, which are
charming parts of the day’s program.
