Editor Woman's t’age of The Georgian As a mother and as a patron of the public schools, I desire to raise a pro test against the new regulations which demand of the teachers 'In the Atlanta schools the standing of frequent exam inations. It aeema to -me that the teacher* are put Into the school* to ed ucate our children, not td be educated themselves. Of course this strain Of being examined frequently will soon tell on them, 'and In the meantime our children have to obey a teacher, who will have, In all probability, becomj cross and Irritable from a nervous breakdown. The teachers have once been examined. If that examination was not satisfactory, why were they put Into the schools st all? If on the contrary. It waa satisfactory, why take the time that they ought to be devoting to the education of your child anti mine for this seemingly unnecessary work? A physician has once passed his ex amination. What would become of his practice, do you think. If once or twice a month he had to devote about half of hla time preparing for an examination I believe In teachers bring progressive and keeping, up with their school work, but don’t expect more of them . than they are able to accomplish. A teache/> lot Is a hard one at . best, and we most ndf forget that they nre human. Thfrik or* their having fifty children With fifty different dispositions to contend with. Do you think they can accomplish whaf Is required of them, not only In the school room, but In the nfternoon* as well. If their minds on these examinations nod lessons that must be learned In a given time? member they are shaping little minds for great things hereafter, so let the motto be: "Live and let live," and am certain we will find them better adapted, mentally and physically, tq look after the needs of our little one*.
