Pi-May, October U, will be D. A. R.
day at Jamestown, when the president
of the exposition and the governor of
Virginia will be the special guests of
the Daughters of the American Revolu
tion. A notable feature of the occasion
will be a reception which will be held
In the Virginia building, the hostesses
to be Mrs. Jameson, state 1 regent of
Virginia, and Mrs. Donald McLean, of
York, president genera! of the
D. A. R's
Mrs. McLean will also hold a recep
tion October 12 In the New York build
ing, and several days will be given over
to the entertainment of the visiting
Daughters .from every part of the
country.
SIR GILBERT PARKER.
Sir Gilbert Parker has Just come be
fore the public with a new novel, says
The Washington Herald. He has been
writing for a good many years, and It Is
through his novel writing that he has
attained his eminence. He Is still only
45 years of age, having been born In
Canada In 1862. He Is, In'Its best sense,
a cosmopolitan man of the world, for he
Is not only familiar with America and
Europe nnd Egypt, the South Sea Is
lands and Australia, but has studied the
people of these lands with sympathy
and insight. Ho first attracted atten
tlon In the early ’90's by some short
stories of mnrked nnd distinctive qual
lty, located In tho Canadian northwest.
A novel followed, then another, and
then came “The Right of Way,"'Which
was one of the most popular books of
Its period. Sir Gilbert Is not only
prominent In contemporaneous litera
ture. but Is a large llgure In English
social life, and Is a distinct power In
parliament, of which he has been a
member for seven years. He lives in a
beautiful house in Carlton Terrace, tho
most exclusive social quarter of Lon
don, and he nlso has a'charmlng stone
cottage on a little estate In the country,
where ho docs most of his work.

The marriage of Mrs. Anne Lewis
Sevier to Dr. Durr Ferguson was an
' event of Interest In the social world
of Nashville, where the bride Is prom
inently nnd popularly known. She
a daughter of the late Mr. nnd Mrs.
John Lewis, nnd Blkter of Mrs. T. Mor-
timer Gaines and Messrs. Porter and
George Lewis. She Is a handsome and
magnetic young woman, and, In addi
tion to personal charms, has mental
gifts which have been demonstrated in
her successful work as society odltor of
the Nashville Tennessean for the past
few months.
Tho ceremony took place Sunday
evening at the family residence on
• West End avenue. In the presence of
the bride's Immediate connection and
a few of her intimate friends. Dr. H,
B. Blue, of the Methodist church, ofll
elated..
Dr. nnd Mrs. Ferguson are now at
his stock farm near Gallatin, but will
leave soon for Birmingham, which they
Intend to make their permanent home.

Tuesday afternoon little Miss Eva
Stewart gave a pretty party at the
home of her parents,, Mr. and Mrs.
Ovid Stewart, at West End, com
memorative of her ninth birthday. Pink
and white roses were used In artistic

Many attractive games were played
the children during the afternoon.
The charming young homes* wore a
becoming frock of batiste, trimmed

O. M. CLUB ENTERTAINS FOR
MISS MARY ADAIR HOWELL.
An elaborate and beautiful occasion,
which assembled over sixty women,
was the euchre party given by tho O.
M. Club In honor of Its popular presi
dent, Miss Mary Adair Howell, whose
marriage to Mr. MacCarley will be
an Interesting event of the autumn. The
club members, who were the hostesses
of the occasion, were; Mrs. W. R. Mc
Clelland, Mrs. John Simpson, Miss Bes
sie Ray, Mrs. John Matthews, Mrs. St.
Elmo Massengale, Miss Gertrude Bran

The party was given at the attractive
home of Mrs, W. R. McClelland, and the
decorations were meteor roses. Vases
of these lovely flowers were placed In
every available spot throughout the
house, and ferns and other potted
plants were effectively used. The prlrcs
were beautiful china plates, hand
painted, and the bride-elect was pre
sented with n dozen handsome towel*.
At the conclusion of the game de
licious refreshments were served. Mrs.
McClelland received the guests In a
lovely gown of cream voile made over
silk and fashioned with lace.
Miss Howell was smartly gowned In
silk, trimmed with baby Irish lace.

Rev. and Mrs. J. J. Perry Tuesday
evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
R. F. Graves on Peeples street by the
members of the Church of the Incar
nation.
The home was attractlvety decorated
with goldenrod nnd ferns,' nnd In the
dining room, where refreshments were
served, the llowers used were red roses.
The candle shades and mints were also
In red.
Mrs. Graves and Mrs. Perry both
were handsomely gowned In white silk
nnd lace.
