ened the market for futures In Liverpool
Thursday morning, and prices Mjl oll from

for middling.
The market in New York was 306 potuli
points down at 11.06; so d up to 11.09, and
was selling nt lie nt midday. January open-
ed 5 points lower at 11.02. gained 2 points
and nt noon wns wiling at 11.96.
In the early afternoon decided weakness
developed and prices slipped away rapidly,
establishing now low records for this cron.
Bulls are apparently growing tired, and fo
their free liquidation la attributed the cause
for the slump. At 2 o’clock December was
gelling at 10.86 and January nt 10.76, losses
of 27 and 31 points respectively as compared
with Thursday’s final figures;

sheetings, drills and the coarser shirtings,
the trade now passing Is of small account.
The majority of buyers who have failed
to place orders on line cottons and linens
lu the jobbing trade are tumble to get their
full quota of goods for the balance of the
season. This is causing some of the large
secondary mnrket operators to take on
good* front houses more fortunately sit
uated nnd to pay n round premium for
the goods. There* Is n stronger mall order
business on the above classes of goods
than before In several mouths, coming
principally from the Western ““ *
states. Buyers of flue drew
placing Initial Import orders for the f#ll
of 19% and nre willing to take staples
and some of the neat fancy woolens lu
fair volume. In the local Jobbing houses
the business that Is passing is on laces,
white goods, ready-to-wear garments for
women and flue dress cottons. Reports
from nil sections of the country declare
that retail trade is In n healthy condi
tion. and that the prospects for n big win
ter trade were seldom more promising The
collections that are being made In nil
branches of the trade carry out the ns-
sumption that money Is moving more freely
than was the case during September.
Print Cloths Move Slowly.
In the cotton goods brokerage houses
Wednesday It was stated that the easier
prices named on print cloths lmd not stim-
■mated forward buying. Several printers
are still seeking regulars nt 6%e for delly

the stock mnrket during several days has n
pronounced effect on feeling In general nnd
pessimism Is manifestly predominant. Liv
erpool wns good enough again, nnd did a
large spot business; total sale* 14,000, but
thJ* remained unnoticed. New York open-

market followed. .There was no large sell
ing, but In the absence of all support prices

sponding slightly more than expected to
the decline In Liverpool. The prophecies

The area of low pressure thnt covered the
lake region yesterday morning has moved
