SIX FEET OF MUD FOUND IN BASIN The old coagulating basin at Hemp hill Station of ths waterworks was cleaned out Sunday In ths presence of s large gathering of cltlsens, among them two aldermen and two councllmen- elect. It was found that six feet of mud had formed at the bottom of the basin and the waterworks employees were kepi busy from 10 o'clock In the morning to about 2 o'clock getting rid of It. The opportunity was taken to make certain necessary connections between ths old basin and the new one, which la about completed, and which will be put Into service In the course of the next few days. Among those present at the cleaning out of the basin wars: Aldermen A. L. Curtis and James L. Key, Councllmen- elect W. Thomas Winn and Steve U. Johnston, Water Commissioner Hugh M. Dorsey. General Manager Pork Woodward and W. M. Rapp, superin tendent of construction. La., Oct. 14.—The people of this section turned out yesterday In expectation of seeing the president take his departure from Stamboul to the south, but they were disappointed, as the president change^ his plans. Martin died this morning at Newnan at the home of his sister, Mrs. George J. Martin. Mr. Martin was ths brother of Mrs. W. F. Slaton, of At. Isnts. and had wide acquaintance and many friends over the state of Georgia. It Is probabls that the funeral will take place at the family cemetery, near Greenville, Ga. VETERAN MINISTER REVIEWS HISTORY Dr. D. J. Myrlck. n veteran Methodist minister, 80 years old, made the princlpnl address at the meeting of the Methodist ministers Monday morning. He reviewed the work of the church during the fifty years he has l»een Identified with It, re minding tho ministers present that be bad educated, examined and Instructed many of them when they were just entering the ministry. There Were present at the meeting n nutn1*r of presiding elders from other parts of the stato who come to confer with Bishop Ward concerning the Wesley Me morial campaign. Disappointed at having to pay his fare on the river car line Saturday night, T. H. Pierce, a white man about 45 years old, la alleged to have drawn his knife and begun slashing the car seats. The conductor states that he had several of them open when forced to desist. Pierce, It is alleged, was drunk and began -quarreling about whether he shpuld pay his fare If he did not get off the car at the end of the line. GENTRY’S PARADE DRAWS A CROWD An immense audience Is attending the afternoon performance of Gentry Brothers' Famous Shows, on the old show grounds, and the Indications are that fully a* many more will be present to see the night exhibition. The show paraded the principal streets of Atlanta this morning and thousands of people lined the sidewalks to see the beautiful miniature pageant. The parade smacked of newness and was replete with novel and Interesting features. The clown band evoked much laughter all along the line of mardh. Gentry Brothers’ Shows will exhibit In Atlanta both today and tomorrow, giving performances twice dally, at 2 and 8 p. m. The menagerie Is opened an Hour In advance of each exhibition. Everyone purchasing a ticket Is guar anteed a seat. Ran Children Out. W. O. Kennle, who. It Is alleged, ran his large family of children out of his house In Clark street Saturday night, was arrested and brought to Jail on a charge of drunkenness on a public road. The officers state that when they ar rived they found the Kennle family scattered all over the neighborhood nnd the father In possession of the bouse. POPE’S POLICE WANT MORE PAY Borne, Oct 14.—The Papal gendarmes Have mutinied owing to the refusal of their commander, Count Ceccoplerl, to increase their wages. Part of ths gen darmes have deserted and others threaten to strike. REFORM CITY OFFICIALS TO TAKE CHARGE OF OFFICE, Special to The Georgian Chattanooga, Tenn., OoL 14.—Chat tanooga's city government undergoes a decided change tonight, when Mayor- elect W. R, Crabtree and eighteen councllmen will be sworn In. The In auguration of ths new mayor wll be a rather elaborate affair. The Hon. M. M. Allison, judge of the circuit court, will administer the oath of office. W. L. Frierson, ths retiring mayor, will make a short talk, and Colonel Crab tree read his first message to the coun. cU.
