Three Men.

fur.,. of Brooklyn; Salvatore Sprclll, of
Mount Vernon, anil Francisco Rochlcq,
of Now f'annan. Conn., were arrested
today. and under the allegation tlint
they are members of tho "Black Hand”
band of kldnapern, arc held pending In
vestigation.
Their arrest was the result of an ef
fort to kidnap Angellnc Momlllta, who
some time ago was forced by them to
harbor Vito Callla, aged 4. a boy, whom
they had kidnaped. When tho boy's
father refused to ransom hint, they
turned him loose In the streets.
The three Italians thought the Mo-
nilMta woman would eventually betray
their part In tho kidnaping and were
trying to bind and gag her so as to send
her to Wyoming. She escaped and con
fessed to having harbored the Callla
boy.

Selma. Ala., Nov. -.—At 2 o'clock this
morning .Miss Jessie Boseman, a deaf
mute, died from tho effects of car-
bcllc acid, taken early In the night with
suicidal Intent. She quarreled with
Iter slater, also a deaf mute, at supper,
got up from th/ table In a high tem
per, saying she would kill herself. She
has mudo such threats before and noth
ing was thought of It. When her moth,
er went to retire she found the girl
writhing In agony from the dose.

English humorist and playwright, ar
rived In Atlonta Thursday morning anil
U at the Piedmont. He la here to wit
ness the flrat production of his newest
play, "Sylvia of the Letters.” by Miss
Grace Geotge, on Saturday night at
the Grand.
William A. Brady, of New York, the
husband of Grace George and her man
ager, Is expected to urrlve with the
company on Friday, Mira George pre
senting "Dlvorcons" on Friday night
and putting on the new play on Satur
day night.
Mr. Jerome seems confident of the
success of the new play. The company
has been rehearsing "Sylvia" for sev
eral weeks during the road tour, with
Miss George In the title role, and It will
be given Its first presentation In pub
lic on Saturday night. It Is planned to
withdraw It then for a I.ondon presen
tation this season, and Miss George will
star In the play.
Mr. Jerome.has paid several visits to
America. Two years ago he made a
tour of the South with Charles Bat
ted lonmli the American humorist,
and the two made a success In the lec
ture field.
