with It the entire Hat jf options aim the

Town Topics: There are a number of hull
tips current regarding some of the active
leaders. For tne present we would pay no
attention whatever to such advices. Gen
eral conditions are such that no great Im
provement is possible In the market at this

onr confident belief that the leading active
securities, both among the rails and tbe in
dustrials. will be selling very much lower

of Union Pacific 1 and other leaders, while
the short Interest has probabl been dimin

New York, Nov. 14.—Heavy Selling Of
steel stock and Bonds from Iittsbufg was
the feature of what little trading there wan
In the stock market this morning. The 5
vanla yielded 1 point. Pacific nfeo
was weak nnd Smelters declined to within
% point of Its record bottom. The weak
ness nr this group of stock* all at the
same time led to the belief that a certain
well-known finaucler waa raising cash for
use In Pittsburg. Aside from this selling
of stock, trading waa very dull, and there
were no changes of Importance elsewhere.
Tbe Bank of England failed to advance
Its discount rate, ae It had been expected
to do. and the expectation now is that
the Bank of France will release $16,000,000
at famine prices, for grain la at least
#)c a bushel higher time Jt would be under
normal conditions. Wheat declined nearly
a cent a bushel.
Cotton waa heavy also, hut that wss
due to the expectation that conemaptloti
would t>e curtailed, which la something that
can not come to tho relief of the situa
tion lu wheat.
Tho curb market was dull and Inactive.
In London the excellent showing of the
weekly hank statement general improve
ment In the market.
Liquidation of an enforced character
broke out today and prices broke
sharply with little realetance In any
quarter. The decline had »o far as
ould he seen absolutely no connection
with any outside development* of the
day. On the oontrary, these develop
ment* were favorable. The Bank of
England made no change In Its discount
rate and reported an Increase from 85
to 40 per cent In Its reserve ratio dur
ing the week. This gain, which seem
ed to confirm the rumors of secret as
sistance rendered to the British Insti
tutions by the Bank of France Implied
clearly enough that no objection would
be made to further American gold wlth-
drawnls. Ordinarily this might have
met a cheerful response in the stock
market. Hut it was evident this morn
ing. ns It had been yesterday, that the
intense strain in the domestic ex
changes had induced, considerable un
loading of securities from out of town
centers, as the most feasible means of
obtaining funds at New York city.
Helling of this nature went on steadily
during tho morning, causing special
weakness In St. Paul, Pennsylvania and
the Bteel shares and bringing down the
rest correspondingly.
