In him was found that final teat of success—accomplishment. They belong to Gideon’s band who dare to stand with the minority. Look out for the man who feels that he has been "called" to any work. He Is likely to prove Irresistible. Gideon had this sense of having been set apart for a special service. He had heard the voice of Ood. Thenceforth he could not be content with a commonplace lot among men; he must go forth to his mission and service. This meant hard ships for him and fightings; but what compensations! Is there any experience In life finer than the consciousness that you are enlisted—nay, divinely called —to n high and holy work? To be a "sent'' man Is to be a successful man. Let tne leather- souied materiniisi, a* he sits amid his money bags, scoff at such a one as a dreamer nnd an Ideal ist; but this same dreamer nnd Idealist Is possessed of a wealth such as the other can not for an Instant Imagine. There are always new ways of over coming old foes. There are plenty of private soldiers for a ay army that will ever be needed; the day's lack Is Gideons to fill the of vision, men of dating, men of.re sourcefulness and Versatility; this Is what the world needs today. There have been conspicuous evidences late ly of the public's willingness to follotv to the uttermost n fearless leader who does not hesitate to go up against Intrenched power. 8uch a one makes righteousness popular—and victorious. Gideon "got his name up" as a "knocker." He demolished the altar of Baal, and won the hew name of Jerubbaal, which means, freely trans lated. "Let Baal look out for himself.'' This was a big deed, and It made Gideon n marked man. At first the people tried to kill him for It. Hut later they honored him. The daring act wins. Courage conquers. The man who has force and Initiative enough to oppose the popular will and ancient traditions Is bound to be culled to do a lmuler>a work. The "knocker" (• like),, to be made the builder. ‘ ‘ 3 Like Davy Crockett. Gideon wanted to be sure that he was right before going abend. He tested God three times—twice by the famous incident of the lleece. God Is willing to meet all the reasonable tests of a reverent, willing mind. Modern reform leaders may well go to school to Gideon In the choosing of his Immortal three hun dred. Says George Adam Smith: m order to understand the test we must see clearly the circumstances. Gid eon's army was on one side of the stream, and the enemy on the other, and how near some scouting parties might he was unknown, for the reeds nnd shrubs along the banks afforded ample cover for hoatile anibuehea.
