in the leading houses that the requests for
the cancellation of orders have become few
and that there are no demands for lower
prices on goods already contracted for, as
the terms on which the buyers will accept
the merchandise. There are orders In hand
for lines and white goods tlist the Jobbers
are delivering on schedule time, and they
find that the majority of buyers when com
pelled to are Jiving up to tbe obligations.
The Importers of linens and flue atm fancy
cottons stated Saturday that the expired
period of *he rear has proved unusually
successful for them and that they are uot
worried over the delivery of their spring or
ders. In one of the large Importing houses
It was stated that many requests were com
ing In from out-of-town Jobbers and cutters-
up for the shipment of goods that would
not be due until January. The buyers state
In their letters that they stand ready to
take the merchandise as fast as tbe Im
porters can send It forward. The plans of
the large cotton goods manufacturers ns
the last mouth of the year opens are to op
erate their mills on s conservative basis un
til tbe new year. They will work steadily,
but will net attempt to build up stocks.
The absence of any speculative buying on
the, part of Jobber* ot? other large users of
cottons Is acting as a check to any mill
building up n stock Of goods for tho spring.
On fall of 1998 lines the mills are bolding
their operations down strictly to orders.
The cotton yarn market la gradually rally
ing from the demoralised position and >—
tntlous are not being made on future di..
ery orders as freely ns they were In the
earlv days of November. In the woolen
trade there is little new business paslng.
The agents are getting very few repent or
ders on woolens and overcoatings, nlid
in dress goods the spring orders are now
coming In slowly. Jobbers were busy up
to the closing hour Saturday and rounded
out what they declare to be a fair month
under the circumstances. Added to the ten
preceding months It brings the total for the
expired term of the year nhove the average.
