New Orleans, Dec. 11.—'The Tlmes-Demo-

of bnlllshly Inclined speculators gave spec
ulative price opponent* a fairly dear field,
and yesterday the market declined some S7
points, whereas a much leas Important price
loss would have more nearly represented
the conservative view of the significance
of the bureau crop estimate of 11.678,093
bales. Spot cotton did t»ot follow the de
cline, and was not quotaldy lower, although
local offerings, as was but natural under
the circumstances, were some freer and
easier. The Interior has of course not been
heard from, but there Is no logical reason
on which to predicate an Intelligent antici
pation of nny change In the market meth
od* which have been found effective In ex
tracting full price from buyers, fcfcodld
the country evidence no disposition to meet
the decline, mid the rings persist In adher
ing to yesterday’s attitude, n further en
hancement In the spot cotton premium
should follow promptly enough, and with It
a sympathetic enhancement Tn the spot po
altlon. Meanwhile receivers of the New
York cotton tendered on New Orleans De
cember contracts are reported to have pro
tected some 865 bale*. Low-grade tinges
and stains can m\t lie delivered on contracts
at Liverpool nor at New York under the
rules, consequently the protests
tered on such cotton here nrc not sustained.
New Orleans may reasonably expect to be
come the dumping ground of other markets,
ontlngcncy never contemplated by the

New York. Dec. ll.-J. 8. Bache * Co.:
Late London prices show a slight hardening.
Many Mdvance* are shown. The declines
predominate, but are only fractional.
papers cabling pessimistic reports about the
financial situation here. The rumors were
velopments should have a turn for the bet
ter. Demand for stocks In the loan crowd
growing.
The early session is expected to show
Irregularity. Uncertainty surrounds the
Western Union dlvldeud. and dullness of
stocks yesterday gave no Inkling as to
recommendation of executive committee.
New York Financial Bureau: Monetary
conditions appear to become more acute
immediate future. r
be hasty In buying, and only do so after
reactions when stocks of the best grade
arc weak. Careful Investigation of various
conditions* and reports seems to Indicate
approximately the following Individual
points: Copper continues reactionary with
support toward 44, with selliug by profes
sionals on strong spots. Smelting Is being
covered to some extent around 69, after its
18-point decline. Selling ou Aimrnuda Is
n rallies. Brooklyn Rapid Transit Is ap
et held between approximately 48 and 41.
St. I’aul Is being sold both for long and
short account, bearish tips being circulated.
Realizing of profits has driven down both
Great Northern preferred and Northern Pa
cific, and they may sag lower before ttirn-
. which has also been sold for profits,
as being among the best purchases. Read
ing should find some support around 90, ac
cording to information, though the 7-polnt
reaction may not be sufficient for the exten
sive advance of more than 25 points. Penn
sylvania Is reactionary, but has a very
large shortage that will support It. The
same may be said of the Steels, though
professionals sell them with other Industrial
stocks.
Town Topics: The market has now suf
fered a pretty fair reaction from Inst week’s
high levels and a rally of good proportions
would be only natural. Further liquidation
at the moment, caused by the high money
rates and maturing loans, will likely be
confined for the most part to specialties nnd
. among the better class of rails will
probably lead to a stronger tone In that de-
S artment. Later on we lot>k for a good
enl lower range of prices, especially for
such stocks ns Smelters. Popper, Lead, Dis
tillers, Sugar, the Steels. Pennsylvania. New
York Central, St. Paul nnd Missouri Pa
cific. Bullish manipulation, however. Is
likely to break out nt nny time In Union
Pacific nnd Reading, which would cause a
general short covering movement. Conse
quently we believe It would be the best
policy for those who have profits on the
short side to accept them on any further
weakness and wait for a good rally before
agnln selling.
Notwithstanding the heavy liquidation
that has taken place In the cotton marker,
we do not think It Is by any means C4>m-
pleted. nnd would still sell* that commodity
on all the bulges.
Wheat should be bought for turns on the
breaks.
