Pope, a man Saturday presented sixteen cotton receipts, ap parently issued by the Farmers’ Union warehouse of Tlfton, to Z. J. Bussell A Son, at Mystic, Ga., 16 mllea north east of Tlfton, and offered the cotton for sale. Seven of the receipts were slsued to the name of J. M. Johnson and nine to C. S'. Pope. The numbers were 4053 to 4060, and 4065 to 4072, In clusive. Mr. Bussell considered It a bargain, and bought the cotton, giving a total of $901.07 for the lot, paying for It In two checks, one to J. M. Johnson for $391 and one to C. S. Pope for $510 on the Bank of IrwlnvHle. The man presented the checks to Cashier W. J. Ballard at the Bank of IrwInVIlte and received $600 In cash und a cashier’s check for $301.07. When the Farmers’ Union warehouse was Informed* that Mr. Bussell had bought the cotton they found that no such, receipts had been Issued by them. An investigation developed that six teen receipts had been stolen from their warehouse book, just a page or so later titan their Saturday's entries. Banks over the country have been notified not to cash the check for $300, of which no trace has been found, and Mr. Bussell offers a reward of $100 for the arrest of C. S.
