Special to The Georgian. Macon,. Oa., Dec. 21.—At a meeting of the license and tax and the finance committee, of the aldermanlc board held Thursday night In the council chamber, the subject, of licenses and finance for the new year were brought up and discussed at length. The va rious saloons of the clky swelled the treasury with a tax of 1500 each for the past, and In view of the prohibition enactment the city officials are busy devising plans to make good the deficit. From present Indications, there will be but few lockers In the city, and reve nue must come from other quarters. That the deficit will be met with ease is the opinion of many, for the aider- men are men of exceptional business ability. Some suggestions have already been made looking toward the equalising of license duties so that the burden In the future will fall more properly where It belongs. Heretofore soda fountains have been assessed equally, no matter how many openings each had. but move Is now being made to assess each stand so much. Fountains under this system will pay In proportion to the number of openings.. Many other cbangos are to be made, some provid ing for a reduction of licenses, but in the majority of cases there will be changes toward an Increase. COLDS CAUSE HEADACHE.
