The decided weakness In Liverpool
Friday tndrnlng was unexpected by the
American markets. Declines of 11-3
to 4 1-2 points would have fully re
sponded to the decline In New York on
Thursday. Initial prices were about
31-2 points down, but from*the start
the tendency was toward a lower level,
until at the close 11 to 14-1-2 points had
been lost as compared with the pre
vious close.
Spot cotton was marked down 5
points to 6.21 for middling, spinners
taking only 3,000 bales.
The American markets reflected the
weakness In Liverpool, both New York
and New Orleans opening lower and
selling off sharply further aa the ses
sion progressed. Absence of specula
tive buying induced previous buyers to
liquidate their holdings, and to this
Influence Is due the sharp slump of the
morning.
At the close the market was steady
net 15 to 28 points lower.
