. OMAHA. Nebr., March 6.—On n pl.tt- pullflea; our work now la to expoae the
f, rill of hia own making, William Jen- Imitation by them of Democratic Ideaa
nnce Bryan was yesterday afternoon | and to point out wherein they'come
igrred to the American nation as at short In their effort to appropriate
for the presidency and In- j Democratic doctrines.
"Take, for Instance, the trust quea-

Hghkn’d broke Into n tumult when the
mil resolutions Indorsing the com
moner were unanimously adopted.
In replying to the honor Mr. Bryan
acknowledged hie debt to the Populists
of the country. In referring to hl«
creed Mr. Bryan eaid It was to exter
minate Ihe private monopoly: a Iegltl-
, „de corporation can be regulated, but
a criminal corporation Is beyond the
reach of regulation, he concluded.
The text of Mr. Bryan's platform In-
rirdes tariff revision, war on monopoly,
more power over, railroads. Independ

,<? Mr" 5 Bryan eritltled hia apeach “A
Word of Encouragement." ami devoted
hia remarks to the producing of evi
dence to show the growth of Democrat
ic policies and principles and the baels
for Democratic hope. He apoke In part
at follows: ■ ■■ . . . .
■•Our trouble used to be to persuade
the Republicans to accept Democratic
tlon. We had definitely convinced the
Republicans that there were trusts.
Now they admit trusts exist: we had
difficulty convincing them the criminal
laws should be enforced against trusts;
now they admit It ahouff) be enforced,
but fall to enforce It. In so far aa
they have acted against thg trusts ut
all they have acted along the linen laid
down by the Democrats, but the trust
magnates are still at large, the trusts
are still flourishing, and even the sup
porters of Mr. Taft have no specific
remedies to offer for relief, and trusts
arise while Republicans are boasting
of their crusade against them.
! "On the tariff the Republican leaders
now admit that tariff reform Is now-
necessary. but a careful reading of their
promises show that they use language
Identical with that employed In former
platforma which have been the basis
for the present extortionate rates. The
advocates of the McKinley tariff and of
the Dlngley tariff never asked for more
than enough to cover the difference In
Cost of labor here and abroad, but un
der the pretense of protecting labor
they built up the present oppressive
schedules."

Brazil’. Real E.tat. Way..
There la no buelnees In Braall which
correspond, with that known aa the
real estate business In the United
States. Real progwrty In Brazil la gold
generally with no other Intermediary
than the notary who preparea the pa
pers; buyer and seller are brought to
gether thru newspaper advertisements,
general business associations, or In
other ways. In Brasil/ there are but
two classes of people, the rich and the
poor. There la no middle clase like
that which forms the mass of people in
the United States, and property Is held
by lease, the owners hptdlng It for In
vestment, the lessors having nodnter-
est In It other than that of temporary
occupancy. Taxes on rest estate are
mostly upon a rental baela, and In Bio
de Janeiro 10 per'cent-of rants go to
the municipality. Unoccupied properly
Is not taxed: property occupied by Ihe
owners Is taxed one-tenth of what Its
annual rent would amount td, the sum
being baaed upon the actual rental »f
similar property. Thera are nth*r
forms of taxation on property, but
they do not affect general rent estate
holding conditions. .

NEW ORLEANS, March Early
trade In New Orleans cotton market tva*
characterized by exceptionally quiet
tone, and, aa a result, there waa very
little business recorded during the fore
noon session In the locst market. Prices
were quoted at a decltbe of two points,
due to the weakness displayed by the
cables received from Liverpool. Con
siderable bear pressure 3vas exerted on
the market In the North, and during
the forenoon May contracts were re
ported selling aa low ’an 10-57. This
development but added to The weakness
already apparent In logoi trade nnd kept
the market at rather low levels. Trade
waa reported dull In New Orleans at the
