HAVANA, April 24 —The government
has awarded the (700.000 contract f >r
the highway building In the Plnar Del
Rio province to W. J. Oliver, of Knox
ville. Tenn. Oliver wa» the lowest bid
der, but his offer was attacked by Cu
ban contractors. They represented Oli
ver intended bringing laborers from
the United States, despite the fact that
large numbers of Idle Cubans needed
work. The sufficiency of bis bond was
also questioned.
