Green had studied In a New York con
servatory with the actress and had
known her in a professional way. Mrs.
Grefin attended the matinee Saturday
and her actresa friend Ihvlted her and
her husband to call on her after the
theater Saturday night.’
The stabbing of Green occurred Just
after he and hla .wife and another
couple had bid the actress lind her hus
band good night and had started home.
At Peachtree and Broad-sta. the quar
tet passed a young man. who la said to
have made some kind qf .lnsultlng re
mark. Green chased the man. but he
got away. When he failed to catch the
man. he Is said to have attacked Eng
lish, who w as also coming along Peach
tree-st. In the melee English pulled his
knife and stabbed Green. He then
Jerked loose from Green, and. not
knowing he had cut him. sought Po
liceman Burnett and aaked him to make
a case against Green for striking him.
It was then discovered that the hus
band had been cut.
English was then taken Into custody
by Policemen Burnett and Scott and a
special officer of the Piedmont and sent
to the police station. The New York
alnger was also arrested because of her
attack on Officer Burnett, and waa de
tained In the matron's wn-«; ur»i« ^m-
day afternoon, when she was released
on cash collateral of $199. English was
released Monday morning on 1199 bond.
The cases wilt be tried Saturday morn
ing before Recorder Broyles.
The trial was postponed until Satur.
day on account of the condition of
Green, who Is confined to his bed at his
boarding house In Bouth Pryor-st.
English says he was not In company
with tho man who made the Insulting
remark, and that he was attacked with
out provocation* He saya he acted In
self-defense. Mrs. Green asserts that
her husband atrucK the first young man
and that English then stabbed him in
the back.
Mrs. Green came' here In January
from New York. Her husband Is fore
man In a cracker factory.
