80 Per Cent Earned Last Year
An Investment Proposition That Has Not Been Equaled in the South in Many
Years. To Meet the Demands of Its Rapidly Increasing Business,
THE VAN WINKLE GIN AND MACHINE COMPANY
Of Atlanta has been re-incorporated with a capital of $1,200,000, and offers for sale
$600,000 of its preferred stock, bearing 7 per cent interest, which will be sold at par,
in $100 shares. t
A Bonus of 50 Per Cent
Common stock will be given to purchasers of the preferred stock. Both are forever
non-assessable. The common stock carries the control of the business through its
voting power, and shares in the earnings after the payment of fixed charges.
The American Audit Company
Reports that the Van Winkle Company earned a profit of more than 80 per cent
during its last fiscal year and more than 600 per cent during the last nine years, on
a capital of $200,000. The same management that has produced these results will
continue to direct its affairs, subject to the will of the stockholders. This company
has built up a business which in the last five or six years has constructed more
than three-quarters of the cotton seed oil machinery installed in the South, which
means in the world.
Never Stopped By Hard Times
Through the thirty years of its existence this business has never been interrupted
by hard times. It is being operated today to its full capacity. The demand' for its
output comes from the United States, Russia, Argentine Republic, Mexico, Peru,
Egypt and from every country’ where the great staple is grown. This demand is in
creasing as the cotton industry*, admittedly in its infancy, is expanding with mar
velous strides. This company has an unimpeachable credit and enjoys the confi
dence and good will of every customer, past or present.
Act Quick—Now
In advance of the opening of subscription books, many applications were received
from all parts of the South for this stock. A proposition of such attractiveness nat
urally will not remain open very long. You should lose no time before investigat
ing it for yourself. You should act quick. Write today.

QUEER COURT PROCEEDINGS
ON FRENCH-BELGIUM FRONTIER
The other day a railroad eoaeh at
the Franro-Belglan frontier etatlon of
Guevy was carefully placed across the
boundary line between the two coun
tries which the rails pass In such a
msnner that one-half of It was In
France and the other In Belgium. Then
at the same moment a French Judge
entered thru the French door and a
Belgian Judge thru the Belgian door.
The French magistrate looked out of
the French window and the Belgian out
of the Belgian window, while before
thblr eyes was "reconstituted" a mur-
oer committed three years ago by four
tn*n who broke Into a house at Mons
*nd killed a servant girl.
All four were recently captured. Two
of them are Frenchmen and two Bel-
glins, hence the strange procedure.
The "reconstitution" was not accurate,
even tho. according to custom, a po
liceman Impersonated the murdered
••event, for the spot where the crime
*•* committed was at Mons on Belgian
•ell In this case the two Belgians
•reused were placed on Belgian soil
i™ lh ' two Frenchmen on that of
trance, in view of their respective ex-
•mlnlng magistrates, while tho crime
was "reconstructed’' without any ef
fect whatever. There has long been a
popular feeling that such absurd legal
ceremonies should be abolished, the
best argument against them being their
absolute ueelessnees.
The original purpose of the antiquat
ed procedure Is to note the Impreselon
produced on the prisoners, the mediev
ally melodramatic Idea being that the
guilty will turn pal* and the Innocent
remain unmoved. Aa a matter of fact
the hardened criminal Is much more
likely to remain unmoved under the
circumstances than an Innocent man
who has any nerves. This Franeo-
Eelglnn reductlo ad abeurdum, made
necessary because neither country ex
tradites Its own citizens or subjects,
should hasten Its abolition.
