i Home Interests more favorably disposed
toward Rock Taland atocka. They nre show

rerr well.
The socalled Standard Oil stocks have
shown weakness this morning/ Rt. Par.l,
Copper. Nmelter* and Kafy all noting badly.
Carpenter. Hogget A■ Co.: The Maine elec
tion result should hare no effect on prices,
but might be used as nti excuse to force a
moderate reaction, and If so stocks should
be purchased. Gradually higher price* In
the lending Issues are soon almost dally and
senreely any recessions are permitted, blit
the general market has not broadened to
the extent It should, and ninny stocks are
very attractive nt present prices.
Wall Rtreet Topics: The operations g*dyg
on In the stock market nt present are ns
confusing to the student of technical condi
tions aa they nre to the casual market ob
server. The manipulation Is so conducted
as to make It difficult to distinguish wheth
er the market Is now In n period of dlatrlbti
tlon or scrumulatlnn. The returns of the
3falne election, which, while very likely to
be reflected In s reaction In the stock mar
ket. offer no criterion as to what the No
vember election will show In that state, fto
on! Inaura nnd the Individual popularity of
the Democratic candidate drew many votes
which will he dlfferentlv recorded for the
presidential candidate. Politics has at last
lwconie the Important topic of dlaeusslon
In Wall-st. and will now remain a potent
factor until the presidential contest is de
cided. It Is likely to have considerably
more Influence from now on In the stock
market thin It has had. The passing of the
dividend of the American Locomotive nnd
the conslderntlon of like action In other
ompanles has had n decidedly detrimental
ffeet on the Industrial stares generally. It
.a attracting attention to business condi
tions ns they are really existing today In
lost of the industrial lines.
