At the Bijou.
A tremendous gathering of amuse
ment seeking people found refreshment
at the Bijou Tuesday night, and thor
oughly enjoyed "In New York.** the
musical extravaganza. In which Chas.
Howard I* the star.
Ik was a big, Jolly, ever-ready-to-
laugh, and ever-rendy-to-applaud gath
ering. and -Just the kind that a compa
ny of performers want to work for. y
Charles Howard, as the funny little
Hebrew politician, was nlmply bubbling
over with good humor. He sings ®aro-
dlca nnd leads about half of the really
good musical numbers. And the other
principals are clever nnd have plenty
to do to make them well liked.
There ore several rattling good spe
cialties In the bill, nnd perhaps the
beat dancing act ever seen In Atlanta
Ic the offering of the Marvelous. Mil
lers.
There will be matinee performances
on Wednesday nnd Saturday, nnd tho
usual evening shows the balance of the
week. —*
Lyric to Open Thursday.
It actually seems that all Atlanta
will try to crowd Into the Lyric during
the four performances Hint will record
the opening of the new bouse. The
advance sale for the opening night.
Thursday. Ih perhaps the largest sale
of theater reservations ever made Its
Atlanta. The capacity of the house
will be tested to Its utmost, and a more
representative gathering will never as
semble In a place of amusement. There,
too. Ih a tremendous sale for the Heals
for the Friday and Saturday night per
formance.*, .and the matinee on Satur
day. The box office at the Bijou will
be continued until the office at the
Lyric Ih made ready, and reservatlonH
for any future performance may be
made at this time.
"The randy Kid," the musical nov
elty. will have the honor of opening the
new house. The attraction has a
standing In Atlanta. With Ray Ray
mond nnd many of the original com
pany that scored such a terrific suc
cess at the Bijou last season, there Is
every assurance that there will be the
sort of entertainment becoming the
opening.
Vaudeville at tha Orpheum.
Did yin ever see a dog climb a rope?
Well. It's possible nnd one of the trained
pups at the Orpheum this week proves
It by doing It. This Is Just one of the
stunts of Mine, (’asselll s trained Chi
huahua terriers, the best dog act seen
here since the Orpheum was estab
lished. It Is making a great hit with
everybody and Is especially popular
with the little folks at the matinees. But
this Is Just one of seven acts, all of
which mfinsure up to the Orpheum
standard. One of the best Is Harry
Le<’lair’s Impersonations of women
characters, so realistic as to deceive
most of his audience Into thinking he
Is a woman. Mncart'g monologue is
making a hit and the dancing of Ryan
and White Is setting the gallery to
stamping approval. Matinees are
given every afternoon.
“45 Minutes From Broadway.”
George C'ohnn has given the stage an
entirely new type of theatrical offering.
It Is rather well exemplified In "Forty-
five Minutes from Broadway." which
t’ohan nnd Harris present nt tho Grand
neat Monday nnd Tuesday nights with
matinee Tuesday afternoon, featuring
8cott Welch In the role of "Kid Burns."
nnd Frances Gordon ns "Mary," to
gether with the original cast nnd pro
duction. The proper term would seem
to he a "musical drama," for It Is i
type of a piece which has a well de
fined plot whose unfolding not only
holds the Interest of the* theater-goer
but reveal a suprlsa after surprise. It
la logical ami convincing, and. whlltr
the Interpolated musical numbers score
a deserved success, one feel* that
they are not essential to the success
of the piece.
