The senate was only In session a
short lime Tuesday afternoon and then
adjourned until 10 o'clock Wednesday
morning. The petitions from the va
rloun labor unions throughout the atate,
ihe communication from Hon. B. Lee
Smith, president "of the .Georgia Fed
eration of Labor, and the memorial
from prominent builnes* men were
read.
The last petition eame In after
motion to adjourn had been made and
Senator Griffin was not dlspoaed to
hive the aenate wall and hear It.
"J move,” said he. "that any senator*
who want to hear this may be allowed
lo take It fo their rooms and read It at
their leisure."
Instantly Senator Felder was upon
his feel protesting. He declared It was
a constitutional right of the people of
Georgia to be heard, and Insisted that
It waa the duty of the senate to receive,
read and hear what these petitioners
had to say. The motion to adjourn wae

nication had been read.
The resolution of Senator Wilkes,

lege opened the fall term of the new
aeaslon this morning when the students
assembled at 10 o'clock In the Ivy-clad
hapel to listen to Dr. Dlokey'e welcome
address. While no regular speech was
made, still some veiw Inspiring word*
were spoken, and alf feel confident of
a great year for the (college.
Dr. Dlfkey told the boys to begin

were known while with them here.
Then he thanked the old students for
the Interest they have shown during

and slated that he had never received

A large number of old men have come

ROME, Ga., Sept. 16.—At the meeting
of the Seventh district gubernatorial
and national campaign committee at
the Cherokee Hotel here yesterday the
following members were present; Hon,
G. R. Hutchings, chairman, and W. C.
Runn, C. N. King of Murray county. H.
P. Melkleham of Floyd. George Aw-
trey of Bartow and Julian McCamy of
Whitfield. W. E. Spinks. Democratic
elector, met with the committee.
It was decided to rale* a campaign
fund anil send speakers and literature
out, also the co-operation of all the
county executive commit,#e« will be
asked. This committee will rrfeke an
active campaign from now on dor the
purpose of aiding In ensuring the
election of both Mr. Brown as governor
of Georgia and Mr. Rryan at president.
