Manhattan.
NEW YORK, Sept. 17.—William
Jennlnga Bryan. after a 378-mlle whirl
across New York state during which
he spoke fourteen times and part of
which he had as traveling companion
Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler. arrived to-
day front Rochester, but remained less
than an hour In New York city. An
automobile was waiting at the Grand
Central Station toerush him to Jersey
City, where he boarded a train for Wil
mington, Del. ....
Mr. Bryan said he looked forwatd
with pleasure to his return tomorrow
to New York, to deliver bis flrst ad
dress of the present campaign In this
city. He will speak before the Com
mercial Travelers League at noon, and
In the evening will speak at Carnegie
Hall.
He was accompanied from Rochester
by Norman E. Mack and was met at
the Grand Central Station by National
Committeeman Saulsbury. of Delaware
From Wilmington today Mr. Bryan
goes to Harrington, Del., to speak, re
turning to Wilmington In the evening
to speak.
Saturday Mr. Bryan will leave New
York for Providence and on the way
will stop at New Haven to call on Mrs.
Alexander Troup, widow of his own
personal and political friend who died
suddenly a few days ago. Since Mr.
Bryan came to New York state he has
seen nothing but harmony among the
Democrats.

NEWPORT, R. I., Sept. 17.—The sub
marine torpedo boat Octopus, Lieuten
ant Charles E. Courtney, eitabllehed a
new record for herself In Buzzards Bay.

voting against the disfranchisement

many friends of Ur. Clarence C. Taylor, both
in New York and tha South, to know that he
has become Identified with the stock and eot-
ton exchange house of Veit, Lyon A Co., and
on September 1ft will assume the management
of their eotton department. Mr. Teyior is
well known in eotton eiroles, and for several
years conducted one of the most extensive
brokerage systems in the southwest, and his
many friends predict grest success for him
in his new undertaking.
