WH "BOOK DEAL"
One of Swindlers Explains
How the Work Was
Done.
CHICAGO, Dee. 15.—The Inside of
the “book deal” by which Mrs. James
A. Patten, wife of the wealthy board
of trade operator, waa mulcted out of
122,000. waa revealed In Judge McSur-
Joy'a court by John M. McFarland, who
declares that he was a tool of William
E. Cooper and Samuel E. Warfield, who
are now on trial.
The scheme,<ho explained, waa to gat
Mrs. Patten to believe that If she
signed a contrart for the books that
they would be told later to a wealthy
man who wanted them, and that a
large profit would be made.
Mrs. Patten, McFarland declared, told
him aha did not want to make a profit,
even for charity, but would etgn the
contracts to help him. As toon as they
wers signed, tie said, the mythical pur
chaser would disappear and the signer
of the notes would bo forced to pay.
This echeme, aat forth In detail by
McFarland, waa tha one by which many
wealthy Chicagoans and others have
been mulcted out of hundred! of thou-
eande of dollar* within the peat few
years.

manufacturers of LAXATIVE BROMO QUININE and other standard prep!
arations have a new discovery'that far surpasses anything ever placed on the
market for barbed wire cuts, burns and old sores.
When Marconi stated that he could send messages across the ocean with

We Mean It
It is needed in every home. When any of the family are severely burn

A Cut Never Matters, or Suppurates, after it is once applied.
It not only relieves the pain of a bum instantly, but will take out all in
flammation and soreness in one day.
It will-cure granulated eye-lids and old chronic sores, no matter of how
long standing. It is just as valuable for household use as it is for stock.
