Expert—How Habit Is Contracted.
WASHINGTON, Dee. 15.—"There li
no country where the drug habit 1* so

States," said Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, In
an address before the Washington
branch of the American Pharmaceutical
Association. “Ip this country the ma
jority of the people ar eaddlcted to the
too frequent use of medical prepara
tions containing habit-forming drugs.
No matter how slight an ailment one
may have, every friend he meets ad
vises him to take this or that remedy.
Such advice is often followed, and as
the result the person seeking a remedy
takes poisons, which, in many cases,
transform him Into a drug (lend.”
Dr. Wiley discussed the proposed In
ternatlonal movement for the prohlbl
tlon of opiu mand also other habit-
forming drugs. There would have to be
sufficient provisos not lo cause the
elimination of drugs necessary to phy
sicians In their practice.

The committee was scheduled to hold

cy cauaed by the resignation of Mr.
Gray could be filled. Governor Smith

meeting at an early date.

This Is the second lurgest sum the
chief paymaster of this department lias

After a session of more than three
hours, the Georgia school book com
mission adjourned at 1:30 o’clock Tues-'
day afternoon to meet " again at 3
o’clock, a! which tljne the commission'
resumed the hearing of argument from
representatives of the various book
concerns seeking the contract for the
supply of text-books.
The argument on grammars was
heard at the meeting Monday after
noon and was concluded Tuesday morn
ing. The arguments on. arithmetics and
text-books- on agriculture have been
completed and there are ten wrt’lng
book men yet to be-heard bom. The
commission hopes to complete Its work
Tuesday afternoon.

Alleging frequent acts of cruelty upon
the part of his wife, Elisabeth Collier
Dodd, a suit for divorce was tiled Tues
day afternoon In superior court by
Harry Dodd, of the law Arm of Dodd &
Dodd. Mrs. Dodd was formerly Miss
Kllsalieth Collier, u daughter of George
W. Collier, a wealthy Atlantan.

In his petition, Mr. Dodd alleges that
they were married on December 20,
1205. and her frequent and numerous
nets of cruelty since then have made

of her father, valued at 3200,000, and
a house and lot on Peachtree circle,
valued at 215,000. Petitioner lets forth
that he han a one-thlril Interest In an
Alabama-st. building worth 225.000 and
personal property worth 22,000. lie
asks a total divorce.
