KILLS HIMSELF
Contimud from Pago On*
,. u t the tragedy In dramatic atyle.
Dr Lawson McCloud was the first
witness for the day. He described An-
nls' wounds. Testimony of a similar
nature was also given by Drs. Shamuk
and Bloodgood.
Mr*. Annie on 8tan<l.
Mrs Annls, widow of the slain man,
waa next called to the witness stand.
Phe Is a fine-looking woman and was
•martly attired. Her testimony related
'Li., to facts relative to the death of
her husband In the hospital.
Martin Skuna, the hackman. by whom
the state pxpectB to prove Its case
against Hains. was called next. He
drove the Hains brothers from the sta
tion to the Bnyslde Yacht Club.
Attorney McIntyre objected to Sku
na's testimony, because ho could not
asparantly Identify Thornton Hains as
one of the men In his hack on that day.
"I will admit that his failure to Iden-
tlfy the defendant Is a surprise to me.
t did not expect such an answer,”
sighed Mr. Darrin, who was beginning
to show signs of physical collapse.
This caused another outburst from
McIntyre. He declared without minc
ing his words that Darrin was unfair,
biased, prejudiced and many other
things, and that his statement showed
It.
Justice Crane with difficulty halted
the lawyer In his denunciation of the
embarrassed prosecutor. Directed by
the court, Darrin withdrew his witness
and consented to striking the evidence
from the record.
Charies A. BIrchfleld. a close friend
of Annls, was called. He told of the
■hooting of Annls, and said Thornton
Heine pointed his gun at him. He de
clared also that tho pistol was pointed
at Mrs. Annls. A recess followed after
his testimony.

stunted unlees some adequate means of
disposing of her sewage Is found.
•'Columbus, Ohio, a city about ths
alia of Atlanta, has recently Installed a
septic tank at an expense of $900,004,
which Is said to work very satisfactori

more than one tank would be necessary

'The committee on sewers and drains
will be selected with especial care this
year. Its work will be extremely Im
portant for the next two years.
Must Get Old Postoffico.
“Likewise, the committee on public
buildings and grounds will have an Im
portant work to do, as It will be up to
this committee to secure the old poat-
offlee and site from the government as
a site tor the new city hall. It's a
question, to my mind, either of securing
the site and building within the next
two years or not at all.
"Ths committee on the auditorium'
armory will also be Important."
The mayor-elect stated he attended
the Southern Commercial Congress at
Washington, the Rivers and Harbors
Congress and the Conservation Con
gress. At New York he was occupied
most of the time looking after private
business matters.
Maddox Met Mr. Taft.
"I saw Mr. Taft,” Mr. Maddox said,
“and he stated positively he will be In
Atlanta about the middle of January. I
was never more favorably Impressed
with a man In my life than with the
president-elect."
Mr. Maddox touched upon’his per

‘‘I wish It understood,” hs said, "that
I am not in politics. I Intend to d*'
