THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS.
HI'RSDAT, ARPIL f*. 1901.
! NOT NEWS, BUT VIEWS
BY PERCY H. WHITING.
That Hal Chase Just catj't stay out of the papers.
They say he has smallpox now, which ought to serve to keep his
name before the public with prominence for some time.
The exhibition games are being wound up throughout the South. The
big league clubs are getting back Into the North and the Southern clubs
are putting on the finishing touches.
Next -Thursday the league season opens, and big doings are on tap In
Dixie. . .
The Atlanta team, after showing a lot of "backward” form during the
cold days, opened right up with the warm weather and began ttf play ball.
Their games with the Cubs and Dodgers were all good and there seems
no doubt but that Billy Smith and his cohorts will be ready for the open
ing of the season.
This Crackers will get a good road.try-out In Chattanooga. The Look
outs are strong and will give the locals a hard race for the games. Don't
be surprised It the Crackers lose one and don't be disheartened-If they
lose two. Those Lookouts don't care who they beat.

Marist Wins From
Peacock Players
By hammering out the winning run in the
ninth inning add smashing a hectic tie the
Msriet team captured s victory from Frank
Dobson’s Peacoek team Wednesday afternoon
on the Mariat campus, score 2 to I.
The soggy condition of the grounds made
It slow going until the ninth. Up to this
inning Mariat had a lead of 1 to 0. In the
first of the ninth the Peacocks tied up the
score.
Then came a whirlwind wind-up. Hanlon
got aafely to first on Jeter’s error. He ex
pired on Harrison’s fielder’s choice. Then
Harrison stole second and advanced to third
when Hightower singled. Erakine’s aingl*
sent Harrison over with the winning run end
broke up a well-contested and intensely in
teresting game.
Both pitchers did exceptionally good work.
Falvey, for Marist, allowed only three hit*
and struck out twelve men. Martin, who i*
a comer for sure, handled himself nicely and
had the Marist batters guesting.
