Fitzgerald, Ga., April 0.—The big FKzger

held on June t, 9 and 10 and will be the

manufacture™ are to the effect that at least
500 stoek cars will be sent here and many
of the world’s moat famous drivers will be
sent to give exhibitions and demonstrations.

most prominent men in Ren Hill county and
these men have the races and exhibition in
charge. A course three miles long has been

Twenty Schools Will Be
Represented at the
Gathering.
Doufllasville, Ga., April 9.—The alzth
annual oratorical contest of the North
west Georgia High School Association
will be held here, beginning Friday
morning. April 9.
From 150 to 200 delegates are to be In
attendance. Indications arc that this
contest will be the most helpful and In
teresting of any yet held. Hon. .lore M.
Pound, state school commissioner, and
Professor J. S, Stewart. of the state
university, will deliver educational ad
dresses. The English contests and the
addresses will be delivered during the
day Friday and the elocution and.dec
lamation contests will ba held Friday
evening. Twenty schools will partici
pate ami each will hnve delegates for
every contest. The SleVen charter mem
ber schools are Bremen. Buchanan
Bowden, t’arrollton, Carrollton A. & M
College. Cedarlown, Dallas, Douglas-
ville, Tallapoosa. Temple and Villa Rica.
Professor W. E. Dendy, of Douglas-
vllle College, will be the host qf the
occasion.
EXTEND CITY LIMITS
Movement For Greater EI-
berton Agitated.
Elberton, Ga,, April 9.—There in a move
ment on foot here for extending the present
oily limit* one-h»If mile each way. The city
of Elberton hit a splendid public free school
system, while those citizens who live beyond
the limits sre compelled to psy tuition before
entering their children in the city school*.
The taxpayer* of Elberton support the
schools, but the people who do not live
within the limits seem to be willing to come
in, provided the citizens of Elberton want
them.
Elberton’* splendid poliee department,
waterworks anu electric lights are among
the other advantages which the suburban

The aldermanlc board concurred In
the action of council In appropriating
11.500 for the entertainment of delegates
to the educational convention.

Theater Site to Be Put on

On Tuesday. May 4.. there will be an
auction sale of the old Star theater
property, on Dec«tur-st. The theater
building was recently destroyed by Are,
and since this cut off the Income, the
administrators wish to sell the property
and divide the proceed!. The property,
which fronts (l feet on Decatur-st., Is
valued at $100,009.
Ordinary John R. Wilkinson - granted
leave to sell the property Thursday,
after the eettlement of a' dispute be
tween the administrators. Two-thirds
of the property belongs to the estate of
Mrs. Blanche H. Mecaslin and the other
third to the children of J. L. Harrison,
city tax assessor.
On Monday Mrs. Mecaslin - Hied a
paper, thru her attorney, Eugene Dar
den. asking leave to sell, but Mr. Har
rison opposed the sale <>n the ground
that the property would Increase In
value.

MRS. HUGHES IS DEAD
Was Mother of Three Well-
Known Atlantans.
Airs. Bena Hughes, for many years a
resident of Atlanta, died at her home,
near Fort McPherson, shortly after 2
o'clock Friday morning. Mrs. Hughes
had been In III health for the past two
years and her death wap not uncx
pected. ,
Mrs. Hughes was In her 82d year.
Four sons. Colonel F. M. Hughes, the
well-known attorney of this city; D. t.\
Hughes, John W. Hughes and T, I..
Hughes, of Bartow, Fla., and one
daughter. Miss Vina Hughes, survive
her. She also leaves one eleter, Mrs. P.
Harrison.
The funeral arrangements will be an
nounced later.
