One of the largest furniture deals in
the history of the city was consum
mated Friday when the fapltnl City
Chair Company purchased the entire
tttock of the Atlanta branch of Ford &
Johnson .Co., located at 172 .Marietta-
st. The deal involves between *40,000
and *50.000.
The Ford & Johnson Co., the *3,000,-
000, wholesale furniture;,.concern .of
Chicago, linvlng branches In all parts
of the United States, will close Its
branch here nnd supply the Southern
trade from the Louisville warehouses.
The company may not, however, leave
Atlanta entirely. It mny retain n sales
office nnd display rooms here.
The Inventory,of the stock Is being
made by representatives of the Capi
tal City Chair Company and the Ford
Johnson Co. Manager Strauss, of
the former concern, stated Friday that
stock purchased hy his company would
be placed on the market for dealers

the Alabama rifle team broke cnntp at
Boyles today. It was given out that the
practice work had resulted In scores

Perry, where the national shoot takes
place next week. Captain Weiss Is said
to have made 324 out of a possible 350.

opened In Boston on July 1, And which
has Just Vome to a close.
Altho In competition with the prod
ucts of skilled workmen not only of
this country, but of Europe, the ex
hibits of the Lynchburg firm were the
sensation of the fair, and scored a
triumph which Is of Inestimable-bene
fit to Southern Industries.
, It Is reported reliably by Boston pa
pers and lending shoe Journals that
more visitors thronged the rooms of
the Lynchburg firm than of any other
exhibit, and that the product of their
shops commanded the praise of fore
men nnd workmen from the lending
manufacturers In New England.

pholu*. one of the mrtst successful res-
taurant proprietors of this community.
Is making plans for the cultivation of
Turkish tobacco on t>i« farm In Hous-
ton county. He has already made a
number of experiments near Atlanta,
and he Is fully convinced that the
product will-grow In abundant quanti
ty In Georgia soil.
He has associated with him a num
ber of Greek laborers, who will have
the experience necessary, having come
from the native home of the tobacco
plant, where they were * farmers. The
quality of tobacco to be cultivated la
made Into Turkish cigarettes.

Greece, but has been an American citi
zen several years and has operated
successfully both in Atlanta and In
Macon, where he Is now owner of the
Metropolitan cafe.
