One of the most Interesting conven
tions ever entertained by Atlanta will
come to, the Gate City September 14.
when the Brotherhood of Railroad Car
men of America will send Its delegates
from all over the country to take part
In the national convention of the order.
The big convention of enrinen will
have the distinction of being the first
labor organization to meet In Atlanta'a
new Auditorium. At the welcome meet
ing held there September 14 the as
sembled delegates will be greeted by
Governor Joseph M. Brown. _ Mayor
Robert F. Mnddox nnd some of the
most prominent men In the state.
The convention of the carmen was
Invited to Atlanta by Governor Hoke
Smith, then In offlee, supported by
Mayor Joyner, the city council, the At
lanta Chamber of Commerce and .by the
state legislature in special resolutions.
Its coming Is regarded as a distinct
achievement of civic enterprise, nnd by
many It Is expected that the headquar
ters of the great organltatlon—the first
of any of the grent Inbor order*—will
take Its place In the Gate City.
Preparation* have for months been
going forward, and work will be com
g leted by special committees nppoInteL
y the local lodges, which will canvass
the city for subscriptions toward a fund
with which to entertain In fitting man
ner the city’s expected guests. Not less
than 1.B00 visitors, delegates, ladles'
auxiliary nnd friends of the big order
are expected to be present..to stay the
better part of n fortnight engaged In
the deliberations Incident to their order
and Its annum session.

ORPHANS* WORK DAY
Appeal Goes Out From
Georgia Institutes.
“A-day’* work for the orphans."
That la the cry which Is going up
front the Inmates of eight orphans'
homes In Georgia and from about 35
such Institutions In the South.
For Saturday, September 23, Is Work
day for the orphans nnd on that day
the friends of the tots who have been
snatched from poverty and want and
who are being mad* into useful cltl-
xen*. w II give the value of one day's
work for the support of the homes.
The day Is an annual affair and last
year It wns very successful. The
movement Is an undenominational one
and the homes Bonducted under the
auspices of the various denominations
will be benefited.
Children In the Sunday achoola over
the state* will heed the cry of the or
phans nnd so will the older friends of
the Institutions which are doing such
good work In saving neglected chil
dren. There are eight of these In
stitutions In Georgia end the value
of a day's work Is asked.
These Institutions are largely de
pendent on the contributions of Work
day and It Is hoped the results this
year will be even better than those
of 1801. These children are helpless
and depend nn the friends of the vari
ous Institutions.
They are appealing to the state and—

Elbcrton. Ga., Sept. 6.—A large and
enthusiastic meeting of the Elbert
county Farmers' union, was held at the
court house Saturday. Arrangements

the cotton crop of 1810. Other matters
pertaining to the business affair* of the
union In the future were dlscuased and
adopted.
