Mrs. E. M. Jackson Saved by
Vigorous Efforts After
Night With Open
*'■ Gas Jet.
Overcome by g»*. which had been
turned on In her room all night, Mre. E.
M. Jackson. 49 years of age. of *89
Wood'vard-ave.. was discovered In bed
unconscious and almost dead Friday
morning at 7:40 o'clock.
Mrs. Jackson, apparently dylnr. was
hurried to the Grady hospital In an am
bulance, where she remained In a coma-
toso condition for several hours. Finally,
after hard work on the part of physi
cians, she began to revive and It was
later announced that the chances for
her recovery were favorable.
It Is believed by relatives that Mrs.
Jackson was the victim of an arcldenl.
i She Is said to have suffered for some
tlmo with heart trouble and rheuma
tism. and It Is believed she suddenly
became helpless while attempting to
light the gas In her room, staggering
back and falling onto the bed. leaving
tho gas Jet open. In this condition, ac
cording to this theory, she soon lost
consciousness from the effects of the
escaping gas. The faqt that the un
conscious woman waa only partially In
the bed adds strength to this belief.
Mrs. Jackson was discovered by Miss
Annie Oustafson. who lives In thejack-
son home. Miss Oustafson detected the
strong fumes of gas Issuing from Mrs.
Jackson's room, and. fearing that
something was wrong, hastily threw
open the door, finding Mrs. Jackson In-
side and almost dead.
