DAILY COTTON LETTER
New York, May 27.—The cotton market
slumped 8 to 15 points In the early trading
this morning on a sharp l$ear attack and
further scattered liquidation and fresh short
selling for Wall Street, local and Western
operators.
The opinion was general that the heavy
forced liquidation In wheat and recent sh
break In prices for that article pretni
similar developments In cotton. It was this
l»e||ef which precipitated today's further de
cline following yesterday's slump. The of
ferings, however, were so readily absorbed
and the bull support continued so good the
market took this selling much better thnn
outsiders and \Yalf street operators bad ex
peeled. '
One reason was the Liverpool markets
ruled very steady and failed to decline more
than was due In response to our loss of yes
terday. while weather eOuditlons continue
unsettled In Texas and a number of rather
bullish erop reports In anticipation of the
government's crop report due nt noon on
June 2. as to the acreage and condition of
the new crop, are, expected to be rather
bnlllsh. Still another reason for the stead
iness* was the way the bull clique continual
to hold the ground, taking up 9.0ft) bales ad
ditional of spot cotton tendered on May oon-
tracta today.
