NEWS OF SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 1910
PRIZE IS OFFERED FOR
THE BUSIEST CHICKEN
Atlanta, Ga.—Hugh Cardoza has ot
tered a cup for the busiest chicken.
Irrespective of previous record or
standing In the community, at The
Georgian Poultry show.
“The busiest chicken?” you ask. Well,
that Is exactly what the Judges asked
when th.ey heard of the conditions sur
rounding the award of the Cardoza cup.
“The busiest chicken? Why, we
don’t know what you mean,” said one
of the Judges who has studied chick
ens ever since he was old enough to
eat chicken broth. “The busiest chick
en!" and another spell of deep thought.
These learned Judges were up against
It, for they had never technically dlag-
’nosed the case of a busy chicken. One
of them suggested that busy might not
be intended to mean a hard worker, but
that It might be some new variety of
chicken that Mr. Cardosa had beard of
before they hod.
To settle the argument, they went to
see the donor of the cup and surprised
him considerably, even shocked him. by
asking In concert: “What is a busy
chicken 7*
“What!" exclaimed the astonished
theatrical man. “Why. a busy chicken
Is one that will lay a dozen eggs a day
when eggs are 40 cents a dozen re
tail.”
This wouldn’t do. however. and the
judges ruled It out. and again put the
original question. This was too much
for even Manager Cardosa’* fertile
brain, however, and the matter was
finally sctled In this way:
The judges shall proclaim that chick
en the winner which, at the time the
decision Is being sought, is getting
away with the greatest amount of phy
sical exercise. This includes crowing,
clucking, scratching, laying and flying.
No holds are barred. It is simply up
to the most athletic bird to go in and
win on his muscle.
