a do not put too much confidence In In-
I teniaI treatment The free use of dis
infectants may do more to restore
wholesome conditions than all the
drugs poured down the unfortunate
birds. Sulphuric acid makes the most
satisfactory disinfectant, but It re
quires great care In handling. One
pound of sulphuric acid should be add
ed to 50 quarts of water by pouring
the acid Into the water; never pour the
water over the avid. Use a wooden
pall for mixing. Sweep up and burn,
or put on a distant field, the accumu
lation of droppings. Pour the sulphu
ric acid solution into a sprinkling can
and sprinkle about floors, roosts, etc.
Whitewash the houses, bum the litter
In nests, etc.; put diseased birds in a
hospital, and burn the ones that die.
There are many good tar preparations
and sheep dfps prepared for disinfect
ing purposes which will answer the
same purpose as the sulphuric acid.
While using any disinfectant with
strong odor, gather eggs from the house
frequently, and keep the disinfectant
away from nests.—Wallace Farm.
COCHIN CHINA—OR SHANGHAI.
Moore’s Rural New Yorker for 1875
gives the following measurements of a
buff cock of the Chochin China breed.
If we could grow our birds to measure
or know by measuring when we had a
bird of standard requirements. It would
save some of us lots of time In “sizing
up” the birds to go to the show. Here
are the measurements referred to: “The
Buff Cochin cock should measure In
staturo from the upper part of the head
to under the feet 23 1-2 to 27 1-2 Inches.
Body: Circumference, taken In the
middle under the wings, close to the
thigh Joints, 17.7 Inches. Length of
body, from the beginning of the neck
to the ruihp, 11 inches. Breadth of
shoulders, 8 5-8 Inches. Head: Length,
3 1-2 Inches. Cheeks, bare and feath
ered at the back of the auditory organ.
Ears, short, 1 9-16 Inches. Shank of,
leg: Length, 4 Inches, at the most;
circumference, 2 3-4 to 31-2 Inches.
Toes, very strong; those In the middle
longer, and the outside toe shorter than
that of any indigenous variety. The
middle toe Is nearly four Inches long;
the bock toe Is of ordinary size. The
feathers should be as long at the bot
tom as at the top of the shank and over
the toes. The whole plumage should
be a bright, clear buff. The hackle on
the shoulders and the lance-shaped
feathers of a slightly golden hue occur
In the purest breeds. The eyebrows at
the base of tho comb are garnished
with flno feathers, thin and bristling,
more like hair than feathers.*'

MRS. T. W. MOON.
667 E. Falr-sL, Atlanta, Ga.
ANSWER.
It Is an easy matter to prepare In
dian Runner ducks for the show room.
They keep their feathers cleaner and
nicer than fowls do. You can Just put
them Into a coop and semi them right
along. Corn. If fed alone to hens, .will
soon make them too fat to lay. The
sarsish food Is a mixture of grain and,
of course. Is best for them. I do not
know who has Columbian Rocks. Watch
The Georgian ad columns.
W« have surely had a big crop of
cranks this yesr, and they continue to
spring up everywhere all over the
country.
YOUR UNCLE DUDLEY.
In Wilson county last year $1,000,-
aoo worth of poultry supplies were
shipped thru the produce houses of
Lebanon alone. Poultry brought more
money Into that county than any other
branch of ldustry. Poultry Is coming
Into Its own In the Bouth and Ten-
nesieo In particular.
I clipped the above from The Indus
trious Hen. I wonder If there Is a
county In Georgia that has ever had
1,000,000 cold hard dollars to roll Into
it for cotton, nr peaches! Then I would
Ilk.- to know what part of that million
dollars went out from Georgia? Again,
how long will It be before the tide will
turn? When will theee millions com
mence to How Into Georgia?
YOUR UNCLE DUDLEY.
Uncle Dudley; Will you please tell
me what can be the matter with my
hens. I have fourteen hens and 1
don't get a single egg. The hens mope
around like they are sick. I thought
they had mites, but got medicine to
destroy them, but they are no better.
They aYe a very common stock of
chickens, but I have heard they were
better for laying than others, and I use
all the eggs, that Is. when 1 get any.
Success to The Georgian.
R. BROWN
Atlanta, Ga., November 20, 1910.
ANSWER.
Your hene. I Judge, are not over their
moult. It may be. however, that they
have some liver trouble. Give them
something to act on the liver.
It any one told you that the old
bam yard fowl would lay more eggs
than a well-bred chicken they mis
informed you. Better sell out your
common stork and get a lot of good
winter layers. It trill pay you to do so,
YOUR UNCLE DUDLEY
