Macon, Ga„ Nov. 29.—A large dele
gation of Macon Episcopalians will at
tend the annual convention of the At
lanta diocese, which will be held In Co
lumbus on December 8.
Bishop c. K. Neleon will preside over
the semiions of the convention, which
will continue for two days, and Is ex
pected to he attended by delegatee from
all over the state.
The delegatee from Christ church are
nev. John R. Bunting, T. 17. Conner,
R. T. Blrdaey and n. K. Hines; from St.
Pauls. T. D. Tinsley, O. A. Coleman
and W. A. Taylor will be the delegatee,
with T. H. Boone, O. W. Hubbell and
T. 8. Jonee ae alternatea. Rev. Charles
H. Lee, pastor of fit. Pauls, will also
attend.
CONGRESS GATHERING
FOR WINTER SESSION
Washington, Nov. 29.—By Sunday
night practically the entire member
ship of the senate and house will have
reached Washington. Already the
legislative wheela are beginning to turn.
There were hearing! yesterday on the
legislative bill which carrlea approxi
mately 132.000,000, and on the bill for
the maintenance of the Indian service,
which requires about 17,000.000 a year.
With the arrival of acorea of. represen
tatives some successful and some de
feated for re-election, there arrived
also considerable gossip and recitals of
experiences. ,

Local to Legislatures.
Washington, Nov. 29.—Tha United
States supreme court has handed down
an opinion In the cue of Charlea Rich
ardson vs. H. V. McChesney, secretary
of atate of Kentucky, dismissing ‘the
ault.
The question at Issue was the con
stitutionality of the act of the legis
lature redistricting the congressional
districts. The state uaerted that the
question was purely local and not In

Interstate Commerce Commis
sion Decides Against L. & N.
on Southeastern Traffic.
Washington, Nov. 29.—The Interstate
commerce commission has decided that
the rate of two cents per 100 pounds
for reconsignment service over the
Louisville and Nashville railroad
East St. Louis, III., on shipments of hay
originating at points north, cast and
west of that place and destined to
southeastern points, was unreasonable.
The complaint was brought by the Hay
and Grain Company of East St. Louis,
111. Reparation was awarded.

Joe Wheeler, of Bowdon, Is
Charged With Kidnap
ing Negro.
Montgomery, Ala., Nov. 29.—John
Wlndhom, a deputy sheriff of Randolph
county, Alabama, and Joe Wheeler, a
constable of Bmrdon, Carroll county,
Georgia, are on trial today In the Fed
eral court here charged with peonage,
conspiracy and kidnaping In connection
with the alleged trapping of a negro,
John Trammell, Jr., alias Toung Tram
mell. a negro, from Alabama Into Geor
gia, where. It Is charged, the negro
was sold Into servitude for a price to
one Renford.
The government maintains that
Wlndhom. In pursuance of a conspira
cy. arrested Trammell In Randolph
county, Alabama, carried him to a
point In Alabama near the Georgia
line. It la claimed he was delivered
to Constable Wheeler, who came Into
Alabama, and, without requisition pa
pers from the governor of Georgia
upon the governor of Alabama, re
ceived the prisoner In thil atate and
carried him Into Carroll county. Geor
gia. where the negro was sold to Ben-
ford for a price.
D0UGLASVILLE VOTES TO
ISSUE $20,000 IN BONDS
Douglasville, Ga., Nov. 29.—In an
election held hero yesterday, the voters
of this city decided to Issue $20,000
waterworks bonds. There were 114
votes cast for bonds and 10 against.

From Mayor Gaynor to San
Francisco’s Mayor.
When the Ohio car with the good
roads party which left New York on
Tuesday, November 22, for San Fran
cisco reaches Atlanta Friday after
noon. the nmt leg of the 4,200-mile
Journey. between Atlantic and Pacific
coasts will have been completed. The
party, composed of E. L. Ferguson,
representing the American Automobile
association; Ouy W. Finney, repre
senting the Ohio Motor Car Company;
Charles Thacher and Fred D. Clark,
drivers, spent Monday night In Green
ville, S. C„ after a fast run from Char
iots N. C.
This tour, which will end In the
Oolden Gate City on Christmas day, Is
In tha Interest of the national good
roads movement now under way. It It
the first effort made to link the two
coasts by way of the Southern route.
At Its conclusion the road data col
lected will be distributed free to good
roads association and automobilists by
arrangement with tbe American Auto
mobile association.
The automobilists carry good roads
messages to Mayor P. H. McCarthy, of
San Francisco, from Mayors Williams
F. Oaynor. of New York; Reybum, of
Philadelphia, and Mahool, of Balti
more, and also from President Cuno
H. Rudolph, of the board of District of
Columbia commissioners, who has been
untiring In the effort to get congress to
Improve the highways adjacent to the
national capital.
From Atlanta the. Ohio party will
cross Alabama. Mississippi, Arkansas,
going thence across Texas. New Mex
ico and Arizona Into California. At
several cities en route Mr. Ferguson
will address good roads advocates, as
he has done on the way to Atlanta.

at 0 o’clock tomorrow morning 23,080
acres of fine land In north Alabama will
he thrown open hy the United States
government for entry at office of th-

ceived by the register and already e
number of prospective homesteaders
are on the srene. A tremendous rush
Is expected. The register says that the
rule of first come first served will be
adhered to. Fully 1.800 of the Inquiries
