The Investigator—The matter of price has puzzled -me con
siderably of late. I have been told that a much cheap
er car would answer my requirements—some went so
far as to say that their cars were as good as those cost
ing four times as much! I found this hard to believe.
On the other hand, I’ve been told that I must pay from
forty-two hundred to five thousand dollars for the
best kind of a motor car; that I might ns well put up
the difference between that and $3,500, the price of the

The Demonstrator—I have avoided 1 making “comparative”
claims about the Oldsmobile and other cars, because
such statements are often misleading. To state the
matter fairly and squarely, the manufacturers of small
er, cheaper cars are pursuing a commercial ideal ns high
as ours. They give you as much as they can afford to
give for the price. The Oldsmobile does not compete
with these cars, except in one way—the owner of the
cheaper car frequently becomes the owner of an Olds
mobile, when his requirements outrun the performance
of his first car.
The Oldsmobile does compete with the highest priced
cars built. It competes successfully because
every dollar you pay for an Oldsmo
bile is represented by something tangible
in Its construction, and not one dollar
is charged up to reputation alone.
Whether you buy this $3,500, 4-eylinder “Autocrat,”
or that $7,000 6-cylindcr “Limited” Limousine, tho
value is in the car itself—the prestige of owning an
Oldsmobile is “thrown in.”
The Investigator—Your presentation of the matter, then,
amounts to this: That the Oldsmobile is not only the
best car “for the price,” but the best at any price.
Do you stand by thatt
The Demonstrator—I do. I’ve tried to avoid “superla-
tives>’ as much as possible, but it is obvious that you
can not secure features peculiar to the Oldsmobile with
out bnying an Oldsmobile. In these demonstrations
I’ve shown you only the most characteristic ones, such
the really wonderful long-stroke engine—Its power,
silence, rang* of spend and flexibility of control,
tho luxurious riding
ding qualities, produced by a combina
tion of features working harmoniously -together,
the large wheals and tire,—mors efficient, more
durable and aaaiar riding than any others,

great durability of the whole ear.
The Investigator—How can you afford to sell the

‘Auto-
The Demonstrator—Wo believe that a reasonable profit, on
the steady volume of business which we have every
year, is a sound and satisfactory basis for success.
Economy is tho watchword of modern factory and
sales organization, and an experience of nearly thir
teen years lias reduced onr “overhead” expenses very
largely. We carry no “dead wood” on the pay-roll,
and do not pay “princely” salaries to our officers.
Tho Investigator—Wouldn’t a powerful car like the
crat” cost me a good deal to maintainf
Auto-
The Demonstrator—No, but an under-powered car -might.
Two of tho largest maintenance items are reduced to
■ the minimum in the Oldsmobile — tires and repairs.
Moreover, a powerful, smooth-running car does not
rack and strain itself. Things don’t “come loose” or
need constant adjustment Vibration does not de
stroy its life. The better the car, the less the mainte
nance cost /
The Investigator—You don't think it’s good policy, then, 1
to buy a cheap oar first and get a fine car after you're '1
learned the ropes I Af j
The Demonstrator—Lots of Oldsmobile owners hava“grad-
uated" in this way from the cheap car period, but any
one of them will tell you now that this process is ex
pensive and unnecessary.
Buy your Oldsmobile now and enjoy real motoring. A
year or two years’ hard nsage will make no percepti

difference in the splendid efficiency of this car.
Pocket the money you would spend on experiment!
and buy the best flnrt, instead of last I
and buy tho best first, instead of last I
The Investigator—That ’a what I'm going to do.
