Now York, June 16.—Improvement was
shown in the stock market today, with
the Coppera again leading tho upturn.
Better weather for crops in the West was
an Influential factor. Steel was another
strong factor, making an Initial gain of %.
Issues that were under pressure yester
day showed fractional gains. Great North
ern preferred, Union Pacific and Wabash
preferred wsre among the prominent Is
sues that ranged, above yesterday's dbse.
Despite the strength of the market, prac
tically all trade was professional, there be
ing little demand from the outside.

tle rain anywhere, altho cloudy conditions
prevail at many points. Temperatures
are high again west of the liver. We are
inclined to look for a market of a trad
ing sort In wheat, and much depends on
the volume of selling pressure which may
»me In the way of hedging sales.
A continuation of steadiness In the cash
tone -will be a strengthening factor, par
ticularly If receipts drop off as we ex
pect. Until we get general rains we pre-
’er to buy corn on weak spots.
The market has a firm understone, and
we believe oats are worth present prices
and advise buying on all depressions.
The provisions market may firm up a
little, but stocks are accumulating and
the cash demand seems only moderate.
Effective June 14 all trades In grain
carry a commission of $7.50 per 6,000 each
way or $15 for the round turn. All trades

Chicago Inter-Ocean: A majority of
wheat traders were bearish and short, and
a number of big traders were bullish, but
had no wheat bought. The mark<l
regarded as in a position where It n

said the situation Is not favorable for

said they would be more aggressive sell
ers were they certain about the position
of holders of cash wheat.
Corn specialists say the only weak
