atate or of any municipal corporation

Montgomery, Ala., June 26.—About
300 algnaturea, It la oattmated, have
born aeoured to the petitions asking for
a recall of the olty commissioners of
Montgomery. It Is necessary .to secure
1.006 names before kn election can be
called. The law requires that at least
25 per cent of the qualified voters must
sign the, recall petition. Montgomery
has about 4.000 votera.

sentative M, C. Tarver leavee here this
week to attend the annual aeaaton of
the atate leglalature he goes with the
Intention of Introducing and working
for three tylls, namely;

operatives; to prohibit the railroads
from running double-headers, and to
give to the administrator of an estate
the power to sue for and recover on
homicides where there are no living
heirs. In addltlpn to these, Mr. Tar

Rev.’ J. W. Ham, aaatstant pastor of
the Baptist tabernacle, told his audi
ence Sunday night of some of the evils
he had seen In eectlone of Decatur-st.
and other negro localities.
He stated that he had made a tour
of the negro sections of Decatur,
Marietta and Petera-sts., and of Edge-
wood-ave., where the negroes hang out.
During hts Inspection the pastor said
he had counted hundreds of cocaine
flende and vagrants, who. If they were
put on the streets of the city, would
give Atlanta 10,990 hours of work per
day toward repairing the streets and
Improving the appearance of the city.
In closing he told of the beer sa
loons and pool room* he had aeen to
gether and of’ the conditions he had

and elated that he believed that noth
ing would be done to suppress these
evils under the present regime of city

hours, a party of flv* young men made
the trip from Athena to Atlanta by au
tomobile Sunday. The actual time
consumed was three hours and fifteen

Auburn, N, Y„ June 26.—Joseph Nac
co paid the penalty for murder In the
electric chair at Auburn prison at
4:06 this morning. Nacco waa on the
verge of collapse and had to be sup
ported by guards on ths way from hit
cell to the chair.

proval of a recall and Indortlng the
reasons ascribed for demanding an
election, but It atatea the petitions are
untimely and might result disastrously
for the antl-machina forces to mix this
question with the local option election
to be held July 17.
One of the leaders of the recall move
ment said today that It Is meeting with
unexpected success. He declared that
he made twelve copies of the petition
for circulation and demands are already
being made upon him for mors copies.
