River steamer Commonwealth arrived
here today with 1.50# passenger*, she
reported having collided with a fishing
ateamer M the dens* fog off. New
Haven, Conn., early today. Juet what

about ten fee! of guard rail on her
portfld* amidships carried away.
When the accident occurred, accord
ing to Captain W. B. Appleby, of the
Commonwealth, his boat was speeding

possible for the man at the wheel to
see more than 10# yard* ahead. Sud
denly a white fishing steamer loomed
up straight ahead. It wa* Impossible
for the larger stesmer to change har
course In time and the' vessels col
lided.
The life boats were made ready and
the steamer laid to. but the fishing
vessel's captain stated that no help wet
necessary. It was reported by several
passengers that when the boats col

HONEST CONVICT MAY
RECEIVE A PARDON
On account of hla honesty In sur
rendering to the authorities to com
pete four more years of his sentence,
javlng been released by mistake, Will
Neal stands a good chance of receiving
a full pardon.
In 1508 Judge Frlce Edward* of the
Tallapooea circuit sentenced Neal to
one year on the cbalngong for a mis
demeanor, and to four yaara on the
charge of assault with Intent to kill.
After completing the one year’s Sen
tence the warden of the Heard county
camp released the man. He left and
•pent one night with hie family and
then Informed Judge Edwerde that he
had been released by mistake and asked
for Instructions. The Judge Instructed
to report back to the camp, and
when he did eo. the Judiciary Immedi
ately took up the matter of a pardon
with the prison board and the governor.

The funeral of Landrum' Hughes,
aged 45, who died Saturday night at
the Grady hospital, as the reeult of
an Injury received Thureday night when

5 o'clock Monday afternoon at Barclay
