CALLS FOR PUBLIC AID
With a record of 4,311 cases aided
In Atlanta last year, and with prospects
of still heavier calls for help this fall
and winter, resulting from the steady
Incrgaso In the city** population, the
Atlanta Aasociated Charities has de
cided to call the attention of Its patrons
mid the general public to the situation
and make an appeal for larger annual
gifts to the Institution.
Pursuant to this purpose, the chair
man of the board of directors of . the
charities. R. L. Foreman, has addressed
the following latter to Individual* and
to tha general public:
"Atlanta, Qa., Sept. 7, Hll.—Dear Blr:
Last year we were engaged In prevent
ing and curing poverty In It* attack on
4,311 of our people.
"What caused this poverty?
"How have we ralitved It?
"How prevented lta recurrence?
"Wherein are we succeeding, wherein
falling short?
"We propose to convince you, grant
ing your attention, that the only logical
conclusion to the answer to these ques
tions Is ‘larger annual gifts from the
people of Atlanta to the Aasociated
Charities.’ Thera Is a human*, a spirit
ual and ao economic necessity for this
organisation which we are confident
you will recognise when you know the
facts about It.
"The Inclosure Indicates that char
itable need Is generally caused by ad

dolence. Tours very truly,
"R L. FOREMAN,
'Chnlrman for the Board of Directors.”
Tho Inclosure referred to shows that
the majority of the cases In which ef
ficient aid was rendered weijo people
suffering from misfortune brought
about not by shlfttessness or bad char
acter but rather victims of unhappy cir
cumstances, worthy of public aid.
