Stirring Times, Then,
"I remember with distinctness what
genuine admiration and gratitude filled
my heart os those Intrepid men rode up
to my husband's tent to rocelva orders
end dispatches. From my standpoint It
requires far more and vaatly higher
order of courage to undertake their
Journeys than to charge In battle, for
every duty or task seems easier when
shared by others. The most oowordly
of us might be so Impressionable, so
sympathetic In a groat cause that we

hard It was for me to see them at that
time, when starting with dispatches to
my husband, swing themselves Into the
saddle and disappear over the divide!
I feel certain with such an end In view
as I had, and with the good health that
the toughening of our campaign had
given us, I could have ridden all night
for a great distance nnd slept on a
horse blanket in a ravine. Had I been
