Jackaon, Miss, Oct. 21.—Bennie Bee-1
son, the champion corn grower of Lin-1
coin county, Is going to come to Jack-1
son with his exhibit, which will be a
portion of the display made by the
Buys’ Corn clubs of the state In the
agricultural building at the state fair.
Bennie la only thirteen years old. and
rather small for his age, but In the
business of raising corn he has all of
the proportions of Jack Johnson. Ac
cording to an affidavit made before
Circuit Clerk 8. P. Oliver, this young
ster raised 227 bushels of corn on one
acre of ground, complying with all the
requirements of the department of agri
culture. Last year Bennie carried off
the same honor In Lincoln county, rnls.

record two bushels better, and doesn't
think It wis a particularly good sea
son for corn growing, either.

PATTILL0 NOT TO BLAME
FOR SHELLEY’S DEATH
The case against Howard PattUlo for
running over and killing John M. Shel
ley Thursday night waa dismissed Fri
day afternoon In police court. A num
ber of witnesses testified that Mr. Pat-
tlllo's machine, which he was driving,
woe going very slow and that the aged
man stepped directly off the curbing In
front of the automobile. Mr. Pattlllo
brought the car to a atop within eight
feet of the spot where he hit the man,
but could not stop In time to keep from
running over him.
The accident occurred about 8 o'clock
Thursday night In Peachtree-st. near
Poplar-st. and drew a crowd of people.
The remains of Mr. Shelley were
taken Friday night from Patterson’s
chapot and carried to his former home.
Thomasvllle, N. C., where the funeral
and Interment will take place Sunday.
C. F. Shelley, of Sandersvllle, who
came to Atlanta Friday afternoon, stat
ed that his brother was 71 years old.
He seemed to agree with others that
the affair was unavoidable. John 51.
Shelley boarded at 41 Con*-st. He waa
known to be a man of peculiar habits
and frequently passed acquaintances on
the streets without seeing them. It Is
thought that hi * mind was occupied
with something else when he attempted
to cross the street and that he failed to
take the precaution of looking to see If
the way was clear.
