AMUSEMENTS
At the Atlanta.
“The Country Boy." which comes to
the Atlanta for an engagement of five
performances, opening with a Christ
mas matinee, is a comedy of characters
written by Edgar Selwyn, the well
known actor-playwright. A boy leaves
home to go to New York city and carve
a name for himself. Instead of doing
anything at all worth while, he becomes
Infatuated with a city girl of the un
scrupulous type, wastes his money and
his. chances, and ‘when he loses her,
too, as of course he does when his
money Is all gone, he determines on
suicide, having no other alternative
than that of going back home a failure
after all his boasting. However, he
doesn't even succeed In killing himself,
for a strong man, a wholesome, com
mon sense Journalist, grips him, shakes
the nonsense out of him and takes him
back to. the country, where they start
a newspaper together and make good
at last.
The humor of the piece Is exception
ally clean, tho it deals with many situ
atlons where there Is an opportunity to
call things by their right names. The
cast Is especially good, including Ethel
Clayton, Helen Hilton, Marion Stephen
son, Carolyn Elberts, Kate Donnelly,
Mrs. Charles G. Craig, Ida Glenn, H.
Dudley Hawley, George A. Wright,
Walter Allen, Alfred Moore, Joseph
Kaufman, George H. Wonder and J.
Hartman Reeder. Seats go on sale
Thursday.

The marvelous creation of Dante's

six centuries been familiar to the world
at large only In a very general way.
Its exquisite charms and beauties were

The latest Invention for the benefit and
Improvement of mankind, moving pic

of making these charms and beauties
'the common property of all. A noted

In 100 splendid scenes the “Inferno" of
Dante. Dante starts with the poet
Virgil on a Journey thru the "inferno"

sin and wrong-doing meet their pun

make them, and have Justly won the
admiration of all who have Been them
in Europe. This splendid attraction Is
being exhibited at the Grand all this
week.
“Mother."
Mother," the delightful home come
dy from the pen of Jules Eckert Good
man, author of "The Test," "The Man
Who Stood SHU” and other plays of
recent production, will be the offering
at the Grand all next week, with the
exception of Wednesday and Saturday
evenings. , „ .
In this latest success of Sir. Good
man's he has furnished what may be
considered one of the most unique plays
ever produced In New York.
William A. Brady, the producer of
"Mother.” thought the time ripe for the
production of 1 another "Way Down
East," or a play that was oullt around
a more clean and wholesome subject
than Parisian music halls, dens of the
underworld,, police headquarters and the
rendezvous of burglars. So hs offered
"Mother" to blase Broadway, daring to
believe that the mere ifientlon ot the
subject so clean and gp fraught with
happy and sacred jnefhories would ap
peal to that particular class of play
goers who long for the refreshing
stories tfiat deal reverently with those
sentiments that are held In Inviolable
respect. The result was a sensation I
All along the "Great White Way" men
about town were just as enthusiastic
over "Mother" as were the old-fash
ioned ones.
At tho Forsyth- *
, The bill on this week' at the popular
Forsyth Is one which has made a ds-
elded hit. Will Rogers, the Oklahoma
cowboy, Is an expert with the lasso,
but he Is also a natural born comedian.
His stunts with thiTrope sr# really re
markable and hla line of comedy which
Is put across makes him a favorite.
He Is a show In himself. He shares
honors with the Florentine Singers, one
of the best aggregations of operatic
singers ever heard in Atlanta. The
Helm children and the other star
features on .the bill make the Forsyth
popular In spite of the fact that Christ,
mss and Its worries of shopping Is so
near.
At tha Lyric.
Ae a laugh producer this week’s at
traction at the Lyric stands out ns one
of the most amusing, entertaining and
up-to-date comedy musical farces that
has been seen nt the Lyric In many
season. The play Is not new to local
theatergoers and has been seen here
several times before, but at each suc
ceeding visit so many new things are
Introduced, so many pretty new musi
cal numbers presented, so much life
Introduced Into the play, that It seems
almost os something entirely new. This
season’s production Is quite the equal,
If not the best, that has ever been given
of "Around the Clock." The company
Is made up of clever and capable peo
ple and the chorus Is decidedly good to
look upon. Ritchie, the comedian, is
Just as popular as ever, and hts absurd
antics never fall to bring hearty laugh
ter. As a sure winner the week before
Christmas, the management of the Lyr
ic has seletced a play that can always
be depended upon to hold Its own, and
splendid audiences wilt probably be ths
rule the entire week, judging from the
advance sale. Matinees will be. given
ns usual on Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday.
At the Orpheum.
Large crowds "‘continue to witness
"The Confessions of a Wife," which Is
the filtering'of Manager Conness this
week at the Orpheum. The company
Is aq excellent one and the play Is put
on In a manner which would do credit
to a much higher priced house. And
yet the Orpheum only plays to 10, 20
and 30 centa. All the week with the
usual matinees.
